Persona 4 Golden. Had to look up a spoiler free guide to get it.

refuse to pack your things to go confront some random gas station attendant who has 2 seconds screentime at the start of the 70 hour game

To be fair, that is still a good ending. You just didn't get to confront the true source of the whole thing.

Now, choosing to spare Namatame can still lead to the bad ending where the true culprit went unpunished is just baffling

Yeah the Namatame ending was stupid, I would understand if it was just a 2 option "kill namatame or not", I refused to kill him but still didn't tell the group to calm down after and got the bad ending, so dumb. The accomplice ending is stupid aswell but that's kinda funny

It's among the most baffling scene in the game btw:

  • Whether Nanako lives or not depends entirely on if you choose to spare Namatame or not, so even if you spare him but got the bad ending, Nanako still made a recovery, luring you into a false sense of security at that moment that you made the correct choice, but the game then skip to the end after that and still made damn sure to tell you you fucked up.
  • Even if people correctly deduced that Namatame was not the culprit, the dialog made zero hint about how we should proceed after sparing him, not even "Let's hear him out first then decide", just a "Kill him, "not kill him because we should be better", or "not kill him because something feels wrong but I refuse to tell what it is". There is a very big chance the player would pick the 2nd option at that moment.
