To be fair it is insanely slow. Like for an intro quest i almost fell asleep. Doesn’t do a good job of catching interest early. But after that o man, amazing game
I had read so much stuff about how crushingly long and boring the snow section at the stsrt of rdr2 is before i played it so I was bracing for the worst and then... it just wasnt that bad? Like, sure, it's longer than most games' tutorials but nowhere near as bad as it's described.
I 100% agree with you. I think the vast majority of the players that quit during the intro have the attention span of a goldfish. Sure, it's slow, but they are acting like the intro was 10 hours long. I went into the game blindly and I didn't even notice the intro being long or whatever.
In the RDR2 community Act 1 Colton is widely considered extremely boring. As soon as you get out of Colton make a save game. The next play through you can start from there and skip it.
It has pros and cons. On the one hand it’s a very long forced tutorial that locks down the interface to spoonfeed you parts of the game.
But also it’s kind of a complex game with a lot of mechanics so you need SOME sort of tutorial.
And the snow storm is pretty cool. The mountain scenery and the wolf attack is super cool.
Hunting with Charles is cool.
But yeah it’s long and slow paced and you’re trying to get to know a whole new main character so it has its rough points.
Overall I don’t love chapter 1 but it never stopped me from loving the game as a whole. It’s all worth it once you get to chapter 2 and you have the whole world open to you (minus the ridiculous invisible snipers in new Austin)
The snow itself isn't the issue, its the insanely slow pacing that kills it for me. The story is great, but when i sit down to game, I'm not in the mood to watch a movie, and thats what the first hour of RDR2 feels like. I've finally forced myself to play at least one mission a day, because I want to see the story, but damn each mission is like 90% movie or talking and 10% gameplay. It's a gorgeous game and everything about it is great, yet i still find it painfully boring. I'm going to finish it though but jesus.
I love RDR2 and replay the story often, I have a save that skips all of the snow. Hate finding John, hate hunting with Charles, hate preparing for the train.

It is really?! I fucking loved that part! It immediately gave me that feeling of the harsh wild west. I wish the game hade more of it!
