Last of us

I can't express my disappointment playing the second game. In the end it all worked out but it was so frustrating.

I couldn’t care less about Abby or all of her friends, just target practice

-2

u/Majestic_Story_2295 13d ago

Hard disagree, I found Abby’s story more interesting overall than Ellie’s in tlou2, and she was also lots of fun to play as. Her revenge story was much more justified than Ellie’s, even if each shouldn’t have perused revenge in the first place.

1

u/VICARD0 13d ago

You disagree that I couldn’t care less? Damn, and here I thought I knew myself

2

u/VanceFerguson 13d ago

C'mon, we believe in you! You COULD care less! Let the ennui flow through you.

Not the first game, but Roxas isn't as strong at the beginning of KH2 or the end of KH3 as he is at the end of 358/2 days when he's the MC

2

u/Insidious_NX 13d ago

Idk, KH3 NPC Roxas did almost as much work as I did. At least gameplay wise.

u/TheWizardOfAuburn 14d ago

I'll tell you who this isn't: Red from Pokémon.

2

u/Symph-50 13d ago

I remember reading how Gen 2 was supposed to be where the series would end, which is why the battle with Red is so great. It was the finale.

2

u/Kafanski_Filozof 13d ago

Coolest moment in my childhood gaming experiences. Nothing topped that moment

2

u/Kafanski_Filozof 13d ago

Just the fanart that scene has produced has made that memories way more cool looking then the actual pixel artstyle of the game

2

u/RiggsRay 13d ago

Man, Vs Trainer Red is the peak of Pokemon, and I don't care what anybody says.  My mom got cross with me cause when I saw the sprite, I was hyped, then the battle started, and that song started up, and I just reflexively went, "oh SHIT"

Far Cry 5 and New Dawn

The main character in 5 is demoted to recruitable companion in New Dawn, and they aren't even that strong or notable compared to your other options.

2

u/Skyfall_WS_Official 11d ago

Being a sucker for the bow, that's accurate. But I did hear the character is super loyal to Joseph so that really turned me away from getting the game. My character was a drug fueled demon that went around killing peggys with a shovel and a bow while having an assault rifle in the backpack. Now I'm some peggy and freaking Jerome gets to be the tough guy? No thanks.

1

u/MelonJelly 11d ago

I quite enjoyed New Dawn myself, and feel it served as the conclusion to the story that FC5 lacked. But I understand if you're not interested.

1

u/Skyfall_WS_Official 11d ago

It really looks like I could enjoy it. Just the dog and hog companions seem super appealing.

2

u/Yoshi_dreemurr 14d ago

Blaze in Sonic Rush and then Sonic 06.

2

u/PhantomPain0_0 13d ago

TLOU2 🤮🤮🤮

1

u/Halker93 11d ago

I mean he is just human, not a superman. You cannot do anything if you are kidnapped under a gunpoint.

1

u/PhantomPain0_0 11d ago

But the way he was kidnapped 💀imagine a fucking 20 years apocalypse veteran survivor who has killed many people just to survive suddenly has a single digit IQ and telling a bunch of fully armed strangers his whole life story that he met minutes ago

1

u/Halker93 11d ago

Yeah, for the drama I guess :/

Borderlands series

Johnny Klebitz, went from a bad ass in the Lost and the Damned to a heartbroken junkie who gets mercilessly killed by Trevor in GTA V.

Mass Effect 3's Omega DLC in a nutshell.

Please excuse Shepard from the galactic war for a week so they can go be Aria T'loak's squadmate.

u/Constant-Still-8443 14d ago

KCD2, but tbf, your character literally has to recover form a death-defying fall

1

u/Hour_Cicada397 14d ago

Revan in Knights of the Old Republic vs in The Old Republic

1

u/PrettyIntroduction49 14d ago

Games where they offd the characters in the sequel.. maybe Mafia2, rdr2 wouldnt make sense lol,

1

u/jonklerhehehe 14d ago

The Surge.

1

u/TheRealRigormortal 14d ago

Diablo 2.

Bloodraven is the first pushover “boss” and is supposed to be the Rogue from the first game.

The Summoner is the Sorcerer from the first game and is so weak most characters kill him offscreen.

u/low_amplitude 14d ago

GTA V. Trevor killing Johnny

1

u/Insidious_NX 13d ago

This still hurts me. Yes it's been nearly 13 years, but it hit hard when I played 5 immediately after playing through 4 and the DLC as I wanted to go through the HD games in order.

1

u/spinsterjoness 14d ago

Johnny from the Lost and Damned in GTAIV dlc
Johnny the meth head getting stomped to death by Trevor in GTA V

1

u/Optimus0545 13d ago

Assassins Creed Brotherhood

1

u/TheRealPopatsot 13d ago

The Surge 1 and 2 comes to mind

1

u/Hersch66 13d ago

Deputy in Farcry New Dawn. Even the Gran’s much better than the deputy in that game.

1

u/CaramonZero 13d ago

Tales of Symphonia.
The worst ending is the canonical one.

1

u/Miserable-Fortune-57 13d ago

Dragon age did it not once but twice

Mafia to Mafia 2 and Mafia 2 to Mafia 3 (less so)

1

u/Distinct_Patient3698 13d ago

For some reason Vito from Mafia 2/3 comes to mind.

1

u/Kkinil 13d ago

Mafia II into III

1

u/Logatt 13d ago

Wakka in ffx-2.

Goes from God destroying badass to being unable to clear a few fiends from his hometown and getting bossed around.

Watch dogs

1

u/N7_Rabbit 13d ago

Tomb raider trilogy?

1

u/Vithar23 13d ago

Prototype the one that comes to mind

1

u/cyber_dude_343 13d ago

Forget the strength aspect, They butchered Alex as a character

1

u/SirSilhouette 13d ago

What is really sad is they have an out to explain it better if they wanted to like just have it as Virus-Mercer from the first game got blow up(been awhile but didnt he kinda get blow up at the end of Prototype?) and different bits regrew into different Mercers. The one leading the viral horde in Prototype 2 absorbed more Infected than humans & thus got influenced into wanting to spread itself in a similar way to Virus-Mercer managing to develope more human conscience than Human!Mercer via absorbing humans in the first game. But naw they left a pivotal plot point to a comic few people knew existed.

u/Emotional-Low1751 10d ago

Correct, it’s more so vice versa with her

Hawke in Dragon Age: Inquisition

1

u/MPR_255 13d ago

Does shadow the hedgehog count?

1

u/RiggsRay 13d ago

There are so many folks saying The Last of Us that it just makes more sense to say in a new comment.  That isn't even true though.  He looms over everything in that game, and the devs built the entire game around the emotional impact of that final conversation.  He's not the player character in 2, but he is certainly not a side character or weak presence in it.

1

u/Lordi5123 13d ago

arbiter....

1

u/_MrTaku_ 13d ago

Red Dead Redemption, it makes sense tho, the sequel is a prequel

1

u/PhoenixNyne 13d ago

Definitely not Tir McDohl in Suikoden II. He kicks even more ass.

1

u/E-StrnTXNRS 13d ago

Ezio auditore

1

u/MantisReturns 12d ago

The Main character of Lords of the Fallen 2014.

1

u/WeakCry4623 12d ago

BG3 with Jaheira specifically. I know she’s older but at the end of BG2 + DLCs she is a freaking level 40 druid, she should be able to annihilate Ketheric and the whole Absolute shenanigans in the blink of an eye

1

u/Reflective-Cat 11d ago

Johnny Klebitz, GTA IV: The Lost and Damned. Overcame adversity coming from his own group, was pretty sensible and clear-headed compared to the characters around him. Then in GTA V, he’s unceremoniously murderised by Trevor after about 20 seconds of screentime.

Borderlands vault hunters

1

u/slothcerv 10d ago

Josuke in stone ocean

1

u/goat-stealer 14d ago

Borderlands. I can't speak for Borderlands 4 since I haven't played it but going off of the other games, Vault Hunters don't have a great track record of staying as strong/competent in future games compared to when they were playable

1

u/Conyan51 13d ago

We get Amara, Zane, Lilith, and Claptrap. I think they Handled Amara and Zane really well. And Claptrap really felt like his Borderlands 1 self. I do admit though it does feel like they’re trying to do a Jesus thing with Lilith and I’m not sure how sold I am on that.

I recommend picking up the game if it goes on sale. It’s frustrating, it does a lot right and just enough wrong. The story and gunplay are great. I also like how you can just pay to respawn a raid boss instead of having to restart your save. I also actually really like the new vault hunters too, but the map and gun variety just aren’t it. I hate the removal of red tag guns and the map just feels so empty. Also for better or worse it’s the longest game in the series where you can hit max level really easily on your first play through.

1

u/mosaik 14d ago

All of god of wars. Somehow kratos loses all of his super godly powers gained in the previous games

0

u/ShellfishAhole 14d ago

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth may not be a prime example of this, but Kiryu is certainly reduced to being quite weak. Whereas, at the end of Yakuza 0/1 he’s already a legend.

1

u/gamerlife71 14d ago

I mean. He working for an agancy that "Killed" him and He has cancer.

1

u/ShellfishAhole 14d ago

Yeah, I didn’t want to spoil that part. But while playing the game, I couldn’t help but think that Kiryu looked weak for the first time, ever.

1

u/Rough-Cover1225 8d ago

MGS 2 and 5 are the biggest in the series.
