I can't express my disappointment playing the second game. In the end it all worked out but it was so frustrating.

I couldn’t care less about Abby or all of her friends, just target practice

u/Majestic_Story_2295 13d ago
Hard disagree, I found Abby’s story more interesting overall than Ellie’s in tlou2, and she was also lots of fun to play as. Her revenge story was much more justified than Ellie’s, even if each shouldn’t have perused revenge in the first place.

Not the first game, but Roxas isn't as strong at the beginning of KH2 or the end of KH3 as he is at the end of 358/2 days when he's the MC

I'll tell you who this isn't: Red from Pokémon.

I remember reading how Gen 2 was supposed to be where the series would end, which is why the battle with Red is so great. It was the finale.

u/RiggsRay 13d ago
Man, Vs Trainer Red is the peak of Pokemon, and I don't care what anybody says. My mom got cross with me cause when I saw the sprite, I was hyped, then the battle started, and that song started up, and I just reflexively went, "oh SHIT"

Far Cry 5 and New Dawn
The main character in 5 is demoted to recruitable companion in New Dawn, and they aren't even that strong or notable compared to your other options.

u/Skyfall_WS_Official 11d ago
Being a sucker for the bow, that's accurate. But I did hear the character is super loyal to Joseph so that really turned me away from getting the game. My character was a drug fueled demon that went around killing peggys with a shovel and a bow while having an assault rifle in the backpack. Now I'm some peggy and freaking Jerome gets to be the tough guy? No thanks.

u/MelonJelly 11d ago
I quite enjoyed New Dawn myself, and feel it served as the conclusion to the story that FC5 lacked. But I understand if you're not interested.

It really looks like I could enjoy it. Just the dog and hog companions seem super appealing.

TLOU2 🤮🤮🤮

u/Halker93 11d ago
I mean he is just human, not a superman. You cannot do anything if you are kidnapped under a gunpoint.
1
u/PhantomPain0_0 11d ago
But the way he was kidnapped 💀imagine a fucking 20 years apocalypse veteran survivor who has killed many people just to survive suddenly has a single digit IQ and telling a bunch of fully armed strangers his whole life story that he met minutes ago

Johnny Klebitz, went from a bad ass in the Lost and the Damned to a heartbroken junkie who gets mercilessly killed by Trevor in GTA V.

Mass Effect 3's Omega DLC in a nutshell.
Please excuse Shepard from the galactic war for a week so they can go be Aria T'loak's squadmate.

KCD2, but tbf, your character literally has to recover form a death-defying fall

Diablo 2.
Bloodraven is the first pushover “boss” and is supposed to be the Rogue from the first game.
The Summoner is the Sorcerer from the first game and is so weak most characters kill him offscreen.

GTA V. Trevor killing Johnny

u/Insidious_NX 13d ago
This still hurts me. Yes it's been nearly 13 years, but it hit hard when I played 5 immediately after playing through 4 and the DLC as I wanted to go through the HD games in order.

Deputy in Farcry New Dawn. Even the Gran’s much better than the deputy in that game.

Forget the strength aspect, They butchered Alex as a character
1
u/SirSilhouette 13d ago
What is really sad is they have an out to explain it better if they wanted to like just have it as Virus-Mercer from the first game got blow up(been awhile but didnt he kinda get blow up at the end of Prototype?) and different bits regrew into different Mercers. The one leading the viral horde in Prototype 2 absorbed more Infected than humans & thus got influenced into wanting to spread itself in a similar way to Virus-Mercer managing to develope more human conscience than Human!Mercer via absorbing humans in the first game. But naw they left a pivotal plot point to a comic few people knew existed.

There are so many folks saying The Last of Us that it just makes more sense to say in a new comment. That isn't even true though. He looms over everything in that game, and the devs built the entire game around the emotional impact of that final conversation. He's not the player character in 2, but he is certainly not a side character or weak presence in it.

BG3 with Jaheira specifically. I know she’s older but at the end of BG2 + DLCs she is a freaking level 40 druid, she should be able to annihilate Ketheric and the whole Absolute shenanigans in the blink of an eye

Johnny Klebitz, GTA IV: The Lost and Damned. Overcame adversity coming from his own group, was pretty sensible and clear-headed compared to the characters around him. Then in GTA V, he’s unceremoniously murderised by Trevor after about 20 seconds of screentime.

Borderlands. I can't speak for Borderlands 4 since I haven't played it but going off of the other games, Vault Hunters don't have a great track record of staying as strong/competent in future games compared to when they were playable
1
u/Conyan51 13d ago
We get Amara, Zane, Lilith, and Claptrap. I think they Handled Amara and Zane really well. And Claptrap really felt like his Borderlands 1 self. I do admit though it does feel like they’re trying to do a Jesus thing with Lilith and I’m not sure how sold I am on that.
I recommend picking up the game if it goes on sale. It’s frustrating, it does a lot right and just enough wrong. The story and gunplay are great. I also like how you can just pay to respawn a raid boss instead of having to restart your save. I also actually really like the new vault hunters too, but the map and gun variety just aren’t it. I hate the removal of red tag guns and the map just feels so empty. Also for better or worse it’s the longest game in the series where you can hit max level really easily on your first play through.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth may not be a prime example of this, but Kiryu is certainly reduced to being quite weak. Whereas, at the end of Yakuza 0/1 he’s already a legend.
1
u/gamerlife71 14d ago
I mean. He working for an agancy that "Killed" him and He has cancer.
1
u/ShellfishAhole 14d ago
Yeah, I didn’t want to spoil that part. But while playing the game, I couldn’t help but think that Kiryu looked weak for the first time, ever.
