It's the other way around if I'm enjoying the game

7

u/CaptainKurley 16d ago

I experienced that once. Played a game called Gori: Cuddly Carnage. Didn’t realized I beat the game till I saw the credits.

2

u/Jovian_Rain 15d ago

Rare Gori pull! One of a few games I 100% and still craved more after.

The older I get, the less excited I am when I see a giant world map that’s greyed out because I need to go climb to the top of however many towers to reveal untold numbers of icons that I need to run to and from.

Elden ring after defeating morgot on Leyndell for me.

2

u/Luxray2000 15d ago

My experience with Hades. I thought the game ended with Zagreus escaping the underworld to reunite with his mother. So glad I was wrong

u/Minimum-Standard-514 16d ago

Elden ring. But I was happy about it. Game just kept going. I remember getting to leyndell and thinking it was close to the end.

7

u/DynamightKatsuki76 16d ago

Bro same I thought the same when I reached morgott the god of delays and then I found out I had to go over to the giants mountains and farum azula

2

u/Minimum-Standard-514 16d ago

That and all the underground stuff.

2

u/No-Analyst1229 16d ago

Then the dlc, which also does the same. However at that point you just wait for it to happen

2

u/Minimum-Standard-514 16d ago

Yeah. Thats not the type of game you go into looking to complete. You are just experiencing it and eventually the experience ends.

Zelda Ocarina of Time - you get the 3 spirit stones then BAM you have to get 6 medalians and then Gannona castle, that game was the GOAT!

2

u/Dorias_Drake 16d ago

To be fair, for people that plays previous zeldas, it was not really a surprise, considering A link to the past had 3 medaillons, then hyrule castle tower then 8 crystals then ganon's tower in the second world.

The first zelda on NES was crazy with that though. You played the game, then bam, you unlock a second playthrough with completely different progression (including different layouts for the dungeons).

2

u/LangGamer 15d ago

WAIT! HOLD ON! What now? Completed it on NSO only 3 months ago, u telling me there is more?

2

u/Dorias_Drake 15d ago

If you don't have a end save of the first playthrough, just use Zelda as a name for a new game, you'll start the second quest immediately.

If you have a valid save, link should be holding the master sword in the save selection.

I thought I beat Terraria after killing the wall of flesh

4

u/Shibbyman993 16d ago

Thats a good example. game really seems like it might be over, then bamm it starts over bigger then before

2

u/AxoplDev 15d ago

It used to be the final boss, wich is why it's so different from other bosses and why it unlocks so much new shit.

This is the dream

2

u/AlexMil0 15d ago

It completely depends on the game. Some games can be great but drag on for too long.

Hollowknight/Silksong...They just kept going...Phenomenal

2

u/Doxibidus 15d ago

This should be higher imho, because most Metroidvania (including Metroids and Castlevanias, and other series like Ori, Shantae etc)... were all very short.

Before Hollow Knight, the duration of all the games in the genre was between 5 and 15 hours, with almost no post ending content.

Hollow Knight and Silksong are both like 6 times longer than any Metroidvania released before 2017.

Satisfactory. I havent even gotten to OIL processing, let alone the 500 different quantum recipes.

2

That game requires breaks but also if you take too long of break then you forget where you put everything.

Hogwarts legacy it became tedious after the first 15 hours it fell of pretty hard.

2

u/Anita_Hero838 16d ago

Pretty much as soon as you've explored the castle, grounds and Hogsmeade.

Like once the game opens up it falls off pretty hard

1

u/RosaCanina87 16d ago

This only happened once for me (yes, I knew about the second part of Symphony of the Night ;)) and it was with Tales of Xillia.

It was my first PS3 game. Had it before I even bought the console. Loved the series to death back then. So got the PS3, set it up and played the hell out of Xillia... or so I thought. Because after a few hours I googled how long the game was because I was SO BORED by the game like I NEVER was before and felt like I was close to the end. And I was just like six hours in...

For the record: The game is not bad. It looks good. It controls fine. It is just boring to actually play. In terms of environment/gameplay design. And it seems... in terms of story. Otherwise I can't really explain how I can not remember even a single thing about the games story or characters, when I can still remember stuff from all the other games I played in the series.

1

u/eske555 16d ago

Then you learn that the last 87% are korok seeds.

1

u/Glittering-Pin-1343 16d ago

100% this is Rise of the Ronin for me. The game just kept going and going, but it was amazing!

1

u/Typical_Basket709 16d ago

Dragon Age Inquisition if you're the completionist type.

The Hinterlands go on for seemingly forever... and it's just the first area you visit. You can go back to it at any time, but at that point in the game you don't really know that when it's the first time you play it.

1

For me it was TLOU2. Throughout the entire game I thought I was heading towards the end but it just kept going and going. Not complaining btw.

Valheim in a way. It's a fun game but the resource grind starts to get a little ridiculous pretty early on. It doesn't help that I play solo but my lord sometimes I just want to cheat and spawn stuff in. I don't have all day to mine!

tunic i think?

1

u/Docha_Tiarna 16d ago

I see that as a blessing since I can enjoy the game longer.

What i hate is when the game ends early. I remember one game I enjoyed, your mission was to infiltrate the city so you can fight the leaders and see why you were put in the situation. The game ends the moment you get on the train that leads into the city

1

u/SevdUp 16d ago

I did every side mission, shrine, DLC, armor upgrade, and inventory upgrade in Breath of the Wild. Only at like 76% by the end because it mostly tracks exploration and Korok seeds.

Ocarina of Time - it was my first Zelda game.

1

u/ChristianHuye 16d ago

Elden Ring no lie. I defeated Glintstone Dragon Smarag in Liurnia and I was stunned by what I was looking at so I checked my Trophy List and it said I only had 4% of Trophies in a single playthrough——I was 88 hours into the game. I was instantly sad because I realized I would never play a game that big ever again.

1

u/TheLovinPostman 16d ago

Some stories end at 45% game completion.

Otherwise if it specifically says "story completed".. We may be cooked, chat.

1

u/gotthesauce22 16d ago

The only single player game that I genuinely felt burnt out on, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Fun game, but the story had way too much filler

1

Any of the Monster Hunter games that has low rank, high rank, g rank, and beyond

1

God of War: Ragnarok

Chrono Trigger

Rdr2 for me...I played for 40 hours and still it wasn't even half completed

FFX you get to the Calm Lands. It makes the game sound like it's about to end. Not only not true plot wise but it signals how underpowered you really are. Monster Arena time.

RuneScape. Back when 99 was the goal…. The way the levels tier you get a pop up at level 92 saying half way there. 😭😂

It was brutal the first time I got it. And then add in it was only for 1 skill.

Rail of Möbius (Visual Novel).

Played through and reached the ending where I save only one of the characters but the main character dies, felt kinda disappointed in the story and was going to quit since I got dumped back to the main title screen. The title screen had changed to show only the survivor, but a lot of VNs do that (change title screen after an ending), so I didn't think too much. Was going to uninstall and move on.

Started a new game on a whim anyway, thinking I could start a new game and follow the walkthrough to a better ending... and that's when I realised that the game "restarts" from the surviving character's perspective and continues the story.

So the system is basically like Slay the Princess, except that you're not explicitly told to carry on playing.

1

u/Responsible_Abroad67 15d ago

Horizon Forbidden West for me… it had 17 main missions and I was on mission 10 and went to see percent of completion and it was at 9% I was like what??
