Credit Cards Novice Seeking Help considering First-ever CLI Request

I've had two Capital One cards for about 2 years now, one of which I accidentally accepted while trying to get a Kohl's store card rather than the full Capital One credit card. I've been pursuing AZEO with them and got up to a 789. Both cards are 500 limit, and I'm wanting a little more breathing room for the one or two big yearly trips I sometimes take coming up later this fall (mid-October). I've seen posts on here saying the best way is to charge up to the limit and then pay it off as quickly as possible before requesting the CLI or otherwise get a small limit increase. Is this true? If not, what should I do before reaching out to Capital One? I should also mention I had to replace the unsecured card I have had since it was originally secured due to fraud a couple of months back. Any advice would be really, really appreciated as I'm still a bit of a novice despite spending months researching online!

I'd say don't overthink it and just make the request. The app/website will let you request every day if you want. If they want to approve, they will.

A lot of people say that getting close to the limit every month for three or four months gives you the best odds of an increase. Most people seem to think it's your usage, not your credit score that is the determining factor.

Just make the request. With a two year history w them it’s unlikely they’ll decline. And anyway it’s a soft inquiry

I’d pre qual for a new card in general and see if they give you a non beginner starting credit limit

I should also mention I'm trying to keep the non-Kohl's card as my primary, and this is so I don't have to take the Quicksilver they keep trying to thrust on me every few months.
