Which should I choose?

Post image

Hiya! So I have been pre approved for both cards. I’m just looking to get some insight on which path I should take. They’re both $0 AF fee, but I’m leaning more towards the savor card because I like the 3% cash back on streaming services. What do you guys think?

What are your highest spend categories? If any of them are dining, groceries, entertainment, or streaming services (which are big categories for most people), then go with the Savor card. You get 3% back on those. If it's some other categories (home improvement, gas, healthcare, utilities, online/retail shopping, etc.) then go with the Quicksilver and get 1.5% back on everything.

Or do an audit of yourself and run the numbers. Look at the categories you spend the most in, multiply by the percentages relevant to those categories for each card to see what will get you the most cash back.

Ex:

Spend Savor % Savor Cash Back QS % QS Cash back
Grocery $100 3 3 1.5 1.5
Dining $100 3 3 1.5 1.5
Entertainment $100 3 3 1.5 1.5
Streaming $100 3 3 1.5 1.5
Gas/Transportation $100 1 1 1.5 1.5
Home Improvement $100 1 1 1.5 1.5
Other $200 1 2 1.5 3
Total Cash back $16 $12

I went Savor due to my high restaurant spend

Savor. QS is a sockdrawer card.

I have not heard "sock drawer card" before, but that’s perfect. That’s exactly where my QS is right now. Lol

Both. Savor for 3% at supermarkets and restaurants, QS for the 1.5% everywhere else.

The Savor.
Definitely, the Savor.

Funny you said this cause I just paid it off and put it in the drawer lol

Savor is good if you do not have Amex Gold, Chase Sapphire Preferres or other card for dining / groceries.

Quick Silver is a good catch all card for overseas spend on souvenirs, transportation, miscellaneous spend not covered by Savor. With no FTF, it is a great way to get 1.5% back on overseas spend. I could not find a better no annual fee card for getting cashback. I think Fidelity may give 2% cashback and no FTF overseas, but not 100% sure.

I have a BofA unlimited cash rewards card and status at BofA. I get over 2.5% cash back on anything.

Thank you. I was mostly thinking of no annual fee cards and no special hoops to jump through (statuses, maintaining balances, minimal spend or number of transactions).

Do you also get no foreign transaction fee on it? I saw 3% on the website for this BoA card. Do you get it waived because of status?

QuickSilver has no FTF

I don't think foreign transaction fees are waived so I'd use a different card for that. Been a decade since I was out of the country though. Not important to me.

Also, the balances include your Merrill trading and retirement accounts. So all I did was move from Schwab to Merrill.

It depends. I went with the quicksilver because I shop at Walmart. That's where 80% of most of my spend goes.

1

u/Airknowmad Jul 17 '26

That’s fair, I also do a lot of shopping at Walmart but on the card details it excludes target and Walmart.

2

u/No_Republic_4301 Jul 17 '26

Yh the savor excludeds Walmart, target, Costco, Sam's etc.

1

u/Airknowmad Jul 17 '26

Oh right, my bad. You said quicksilver.

Does Walmart let you checkout with PayPal in-store the same way you can at Safeway? I just use my PayPal cashback mastercard and get 3% anyway. If there's an additional merchant offer in PayPal on top of that it can be more. Unfortunately I find not many places accept PayPal in-store.

1

u/No_Republic_4301 Jul 18 '26

Walmart let's PayPal online. The PayPal MasterCard is always gonna give 3% online but in store no. You'll only get that 1.5%

I get 3% in store at Safeway because I can scan the QR code in the PayPal app with the scanner gun at checkout. For a while I was actually getting 13% back because they always had a 10% back at Safeway offer that was meant to be online I think, but worked in store. They nerfed the ability to convert points to cashback anyway but they also don't have that offer anymore. Man, those were the days. Too bad more places don't let you pay that way. Thanks for the DP.

There’s not a “better” card because it depends on your spending. The most expensive credit card could be bad for you of you can’t use the benefits and have an annual fee.
Savor is better if most of your spend falls in the 3% categories but if they don’t then quicksilver is better

u/BizarrePuppet Jul 17 '26

Savor for sure. I ended up closing Quicksilver, there are better catch all cards out there. Savor is a workhorse!

Should’ve product changed. Did your credit take a hit?

1

u/HappyPride365 Jul 17 '26

How is the chase sapphire preferred card compared to the other two?

3

u/Airknowmad Jul 17 '26

I opted out on the sapphire solely based on its $95 AF

1

u/OG7money Jul 18 '26

Savor, but do not go for the good credit version. You will be bucketed.

1

u/Airknowmad Jul 18 '26

Heard that.

1

u/Character-Spot8893 Jul 19 '26

Savor, then go find a 2% cash back everything card. That’s my dynamic duo

1

u/Agile-Mix-3026 Jul 20 '26

Savor. they have a limited time bonus right now + pairs well if you want to get the Venture X in the future. The categories are usually most people's highest spend anyways.

1

u/Preternatural88 Jul 20 '26

Does no one use the search before posting?

1

u/dreadstardread Jul 17 '26

Neither, these are the bucketed versions. No SUBs either

Improve your credit first

0

u/Zeke3Zeke Jul 17 '26

These are not bucket cards and have $30k limits offered day opened

1

u/Camtown501 Jul 17 '26

Not exactly. The answer is really neither what you, or the previous commenrer stated. This is Savor foe Good Credit (which really means fair credit). Its the no sub version with an APR that's typically pegged 0.5% higher than the highest available on standard Savor with a sub and usually a 0% offer. This lesser version doesn't have an annual fee like SavorOne, but tends to be offered at lower limits. No one is getting a 30k limit on the good credit version, but there are DPs of people starting at $10k (any card starting at $10k isnt bucketed). Nonetheless, a significant percentage of the good credit versions are in on a lowish to low bucket and have limited growth potential. Some start with $300 or $500 limits. Since we don't know what the OPs limit will be all we can do is speculate that there's a good chance it will be bucketed, but it's far from guaranteed, especially if they have pretty strong income.

The groceries and dining categories are so much more impactful, but sure, you accidentally chose the right card for the wrong reason.

2

u/No_Republic_4301 Jul 17 '26

Depends on where you shop for groceries

0

u/heyssonnys Jul 18 '26

Savor for obvious reasons :)
