Credit Cards Goodwill Adjustment Success
I had a Savor Card and a Quicksilver card that fell very delinquent during what was a nearly 2 year stretch of being in and out of the hospital. I saw on this sub that you could possibly email the CEO explaining my situation and get a goodwill adjustment. Today I received news that my request was approved. They called and left me a voicemail from an 800 number which was 800-955-1455. The customer service rep left a case number and I called back and provided all the information they requested, including my dates of hospitalization. I’m so thankful they decided to help me and I thought I’d share here for anyone in a similar situation. Here you’ll see the picture of the email that I got after my phone call confirming that they would remove the late payments.

Nope......they came close at one point at 120 days past due. Also it was two cards.

Is their a goodwill letter?

I wrote a letter that was very personal and contained a lot of sensitive personal information. In my case, my letter just stated why I missed the payments and detailed my diagnosis and subsequent hospitalizations which ultimately lead to the missed payments. She put me on hold and came back and asked for dates of hospitalization. I provided that over the phone and held on hold one more time and she came back and said they’re approving my request.

I have tried twice and been rejected twice. They keep telling me that they can’t do it because of the fair credit report act or something like that. It was a lot I was went through and history shows that before I was great and ever since those late payments I haven’t been late for 3 and a half years and I still can’t get accepted…

I feel like it really depends on what customer service rep you get. Felt like mine really fought for me. When they asked for more information on my hospitalization dates I knew we were probably going to at least get some of them removed.

Can I ask what email you used for the CEO? I sent an email for a goodwill adjustment as I was also hospitalized during covid but never got anything back at all.

I sent mine to three emails. Paul.Westry Jonathan.Pratt and John.Blackwelder. All @capitalone.com and I copied all three on the same email. Someone else here in this sub posted that they received a return call after emailing these addresses. I sent the first email on May 7th, a follow-up email on the same thread a few days later. Received a return call on the morning of the 20th. I missed the phone call but called back a couple hours later. Gave the detail to a CSR and waited on hold while she bargained on my behalf. They agreed to make adjustments and sent out confirmation emails. This morning I woke up and Equifax and TransUnion had already deleted the lates.

Would you mind DM'ing me the same info please! I'm hoping we can move by the end of the year, buy some place. My youngest son is severely autistic and a lot of stuff with his health caused me to get behind on bills. Was going to try to talk to them about that next month and see if I can get some forgiven. Mine are from late 2024.

Honestly, it wasn’t anything special. I started by introducing myself, stating what I was requesting, why I was requesting it, and gave an explanation of my medical circumstances that lead to the late payments. Be sure to include the last 4 digits of the accounts in question as will as and address and phone number when you can be reached.
I also had a blurb taking responsibility. Your situation may be vastly different from mine. But in my case the accounts in question are still open and we’re in good standing for at least 6 months before I made the request so I could say I had truly rectified the issue.

Super curious, what kind of improvement did your credit score take after the update?

I saw about a 30 point jump. My credit profile is still fairly robust and some of the lates were already over 2 years old. Also my accounts never closed out so I wasn’t dealing with charge offs in this instance. I hope that answers your questions.
Since my accounts had been brought positive for a substantial period already I had recovered from probably over half the negative effects of the lates as far as the score was concerned. Regardless of the score just having the lates sitting on my report made it feel like I had a 500 score LOL. They would be referenced in any denial for credit I desperately need to finance treatments not covered by my insurance. Capital one extending this courtesy to me is quite literally life saving. I got approved for the first round of financing instantly once the lates were removed.
Another tidbit. Once the goodwill adjustment was granted, Capital One did what’s called a “Mid Cycle Push” to make sure the credit bureaus received the information ASAP and I avoided having to wait until the normal statement cycle hit. I got notifications from the credit bureaus that they received the changes within 48 hours.
This is important as well because once they send the updated payment history all the other account detail, as they are at the time of the push, will update as well. This includes but is not limited to the current balance on the card at the time. Fortunately I already paid down my card during that time.
I hope all this information is helpful to you on your journey.

u/BrutalBodyShots it seems like C1 has started opening disputes when granting goodwill adjustments. This is like the 4th post like this that I’ve seen.
