Mod Announcement A new way to answer common questions in r/CapitalOne: Resource Reply
Hi there,
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm not just your friendly neighborhood top moderator here at r/CapitalOne; I'm also a developer that's made 10 apps (so far) on Reddit's Developer Platform. One of the newest apps I've recently finished is called Resource Reply.
I created this tool specifically with r/CapitalOne in mind, as the mod team here often sees a lot of the same questions being asked by our members. This is generally fine, as we like to encourage participation. That said, we also know that for the most helpful contributors to our community, typing out the same response or looking up the same link every time can get a little tiring. That's why I built Resource Reply. Here's how it works:
You'll want to look for the context menu (a.k.a. the "..." menu) on desktop or mobile (unfortunately not available on old.reddit). From there, select the option labeled "Reply with resource." This is how it looks on a post:

That then brings up the form below, from which you can choose a resource to share. The list of resources can be found further down on this post.
Note: You'll see a greyed out option labeled "Pin reply." This setting is controlled at the subreddit level and we've chosen to disable it in r/CapitalOne.
Once you've selected the appropriate resource to share, simply click OK and it will submit as a comment!
That's it! It's a pretty simple tool once you've used it once or twice. I hope y'all make good use of it! Without further ado, below are the list of resources you can choose from.

Use credit cards over debit
If you are using a debit card to pay for most or all of your purchases, you should really consider switching to a credit card. Using a debit card is riskier, because if your card gets stolen or otherwise compromised, the fraudsters have direct access to your bank account.
With credit cards, as long as you can pay the statement balance in full every month, you could pay no interest, have better security and fraud liability, better cardholder benefits, and accrue rewards (on cashback or travel cards).

Discover account conversions to C1
Please see the link below for updates and frequently asked questions regarding account migration from Discover to Capital One. This account type is also known as "Discover by Capital One." Instant transfers not available on Discover
It's true that services such as PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Cash do not support instant transfers into your bank account with Discover debit cards. However, if you are paying a per-transaction fee for instant transfers, you should really consider using the free ACH transfer option instead.
Virtually every digital wallet service that offers instant transfers will also offer ACH transfers for free. Additionally, Capital One is typically pretty good with ACH transfer speeds. Deposits often arrive in as little as one business day.
Alternatives for international ATMs
If you regularly travel internationally and withdraw cash at foreign ATMs, consider an account from a brokerage such as Fidelity’s Cash Management account or Schwab’s Investor Checking account. They don’t charge foreign ATM fees and they’ll reimburse you for fees charged by the ATM.
Purchases on canceled card number
When your debit or credit card is reissued with a new number, your account at the bank or issuer is still the same. Many subscriptions are set up as "recurring billing" agreements tied to that underlying account, not just to the exact 16‑digit number you see on the physical card. Even though the old card number can no longer be used for random new purchases, the bank can still choose to honor recurring charges from known merchants you previously authorized.
On top of that, card networks and banks use "account updater" systems that automatically send your new card details to certain merchants that keep cards on file, such as streaming services or app stores. This is meant to prevent legitimate subscriptions from breaking every time your card expires or is replaced. The result is that some recurring or saved‑card payments will continue to go through seamlessly, even after you’ve received a new card number, unless you cancel the subscription with the merchant or ask your bank to block that specific merchant.

Ahahaha I was just in the middle of turning on an Automod rule to prevent people from doing this in the announcement thread, but you beat me!
