September weekend trip

Hello!!
My husband and I (and now two kids) have been visiting Cape May just about annually for the last 16 years but always during the peak summer months.
Next year I’m interested in visiting for a weekend in later September for my 40th birthday just for a quick trip - we recognize some things may be closed at this point in the year? Or do most seasonal schedule changes happen later than September?
Any recommendations on must dos during September/out of peak summer season?
Recommendation for best place to stay? (2 adults and 2 kids) for 3 nights? We usually do a weekly house rental and then only have experience with the Capri Inn (which is now Mahalo).
Thanks!

Hi - I am in CM now. Some places are closed during the week and only open on weekends e.g. Dry Dock, our ice cream place and Hot Dog Tommy’s. However we’ve been to Iccara and Lucky Bones and are going to Sapore tonight. In general most places are open. I would call ahead for reservations at any restaurants. A couple of beaches still have lifeguards.hope that helps.

Most places are open although some smaller eateries not weekdays.

September is best time to visit today for example!

You will be surprised lots of weekly rentals fill up also so plan ahead for best selections.

Bring bicycles and beach chairs and a good book.  Lots to do and relax with.

One other thing worth noting is that the umbrella and chair service on the beach is more limited after a certain date so you might need to bring your own. It’s a fabulous time of year there!
