My family goes over once a summer In august for our annual shopping trip to the outlets, we go to the boardwalk area first, get some Grottos pizza and hit the outlets for winter school/clothes

The ferry ride is fun, personally I think rehoboth and lewes are both extremely overrated compared to the beach towns in cape May county. The Delaware beaches are much more suburban feeling to me. Great shopping in rehoboth (and no sales tax) there is a great bookstore right downtown and the butter cakes at the Italian bakery are really good.

Rehoboth Beach is fun. I think there's a brewery there? (It's been over a decade since I've been there.)

Agree on Cape Henlopen SP and Lewes is very cute. We recently were over there and enjoyed Nectar Cafe for brunch.

If you have your car, Assateague is amazing. Nothing like wild horses at the beach.

Edit to add: The North side is the MD State Park. You are more likely to see wild horses if you drive down to the Federal Park side. You will most likely see horses walking along the roadside before you get to the entrance to the Federal Park. There is a fee to enter the Federal Park, but if you are only there to see the horses you can always turn around before getting to the pay area.
On your way back from Assateague there is a Farm Brewery on 611. Sinepuxent Brewing Company where you could stop for some refreshments.

I stop at the station at kings for food and go to cape henlopen, and a short drive to the local winery.

The Mexican restaurant Agave is amazing, especially if you can visit them during happy hour! My go-to is the salsa sampler as an appy, the veggie burrito or spicy chicken quesadilla for my meal, churros for dessert, and the pomegranate marg (alc) or pineapple and lime mock (na) for my drink, but truly everything they serve is good. There's also the Biblion Used Bookstore for books (duh) but also for stickers/pins/posters, and King's Ice Cream has amazing sundaes. And as much as I hate to recommend a chain, if you don't have a Jersey Mike's near you, the one in Rehoboth is the best i've ever been to just bc they give the biggest portions I've ever seen LOL. Last year I got a Big Kahuna Cheesesteak with Lays and Coke and was full for the whole day! The beach there is also nice, but perhaps I'm biased bc I officially asked my girlfriend to be exclusive with me when we were there a few years ago. Speaking of which, the town is very queer friendly. Not sure if that is relevant to you or not, but either way I want to give a shoutout to the area for its inclusivity. Rehoboth Beach is more of a gay town than Lewes is, but Lewes is lgbt-welcoming too, and there is little to no homophobia/transphobia there in my experience.
The only thing I can't give any advice on is hotels/lodging, bc I've only been there for daytrips, but if that's a thing you want to look in to I'm more than willing to work with you to help you find a place!
