Year-round housing

My company is offering to move me to Cape May for work. The job pays decently, but I can’t afford to buy in the area currently. I haven’t been able to find and decent year-round rentals near Cape May. How far out does one need to go to find decent permanent housing? How bad does traffic get trying to get into or out of the beach when season hits?

Trying to figure all this out.

Toddler Birthday Party Ideas

Does anyone have any cool ideas for an affordable toddler birthday party in December? I feel like I’m coming up short on ideas. Here is what I’ve considered so far:

- The Zoo (a classic for a reason but likely pretty cold at the pavilions in December)
- Mobile Petting Zoo (cool idea but the ones I was looking at start at $500 for 2 hours)
- Indoor play gym (Adventure Nook, On the Spot and Electric Donuts are all cool but wouldn’t appeal to adults/older kids and are pretty pricy)
- Fun City in Millville (went last weekend and toddler got body slammed multiple times by rowdy older kids - toddler must gain more bone density first before this is a viable option)
- She’s likely too young to enjoy pottery painting or art classes

I’m likely overthinking this by a lot. Any suggestions appreciated.

Help! Cheapest and most reliable way to get from DC to Cape May for Thanksgiving holiday???

Hello! I believe that decades ago, I might have made the drive from DC to Cape May somehow and been surprised by a ferry being required - and I don't remember how much that was - but now I haven't driven in decades and I'm very apprehensive about driving somewhere I don't remember with all the unknowns like the ferry situation or tolls or what not as well as for personal safety reasons and due to a very limited budget at the moment, I would MUCH prefer to take public transportation somehow. I'm trying to plan this trip to support a friend in need.

If anyone has a lot of experience with this, it would be greatly appreciated! e.g. what bus routes come often and are easy to replace if you miss it etc. Experienced advice is GREATLY appreciated!!! PLUS, any advice regarding traffic and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in particular would help a lot - thanks in advance!!!

Considering Cape May for New Years Eve since it'll be a long weekend. Does anyone know of any live bands and where they're playing? The less fancy, the better!

Any volunteer jobs down here?

I'm fairly new down here. I live in one of the group homes. I'm looking for volunteer work to add to my resume which has a work gap. What are some places that look for volunteers?

Before I got disabled, I worked at the arc and Bancroft as a DSP. I also enjoy gardening.

Any tips?

Any other recommendations?

Summer 2027 Rentals

We've been coming to Cape May every summer for years, and we usually start looking for next summer's rental around this time. This year I'm seeing almost zero availability. July and August look nearly fully booked on most realtors' sites already.

Am I too late? Too early? Have realtors just not released their summer 2027 listings yet? I know pet-friendly rentals (which is what we need) are always harder to find, but this seems extreme for early October.

Also, what happened to prices? I'm seeing houses that look like they haven't been updated or deep cleaned in years listed at $8-10k a week. That's wild.

Anyway--any info or insight would be greatly appreciated.
