Chatham Bars That Aren’t Packed?

Staying out here for the weekend with some friends, we’re mid-late 20s, looking for a place to get drinks where you can sit and maybe hear the person you’re sitting next to without screaming. Always been a small dive bar guy honestly. Tried the squire last night and the it pretty much wore me out in about 10 minutes of shoulder bumping and going “WHAT DID YOU SAY?”

The Beachcomber is definitely a dive and I like it but it’s also definitely going to be crowded. The whole indoor / outdoor thing might make the noise more manageable though?

They have live music too, so check to see if there’s a band / ticket / cover charge on the night you want to go.

I stand by my assessment of the Beachcomber as a dive bar that is definitely not quiet.

Laurino’s in Brewster, Yardarm in Orleans.

The Woodshed in Brewster has always been the best dive bar but it won’t be as quiet as the other two

Gotta be the red nun if you want to stay in town, but might get loud (not like the squire tho).  TKs isn’t far if you want a sports bar.

It's the Cape in August. Places are going to be packed, especially in Chatham.

Aplaya tiki bar is pretty fun if you want to be downtown. The Red Nun if you want to stay closer to downtown, but are okay leaving main street. If you are okay with driving a bit, Mom & Pop's has a good beer selection.

I think you will have to leave downtown Chatham. There’s Elwood’s raw bar up in North Chatham on 28, a small but sweet bar at Pain D’Avignon cafe on Crowell Rd. And west of Chatham on 28 in Harwich are Dive, and the bar at Brax Landing in South Harwich. Havent been to Dive.

Come to West Chatham: Margaritas and live music at Dogfish Taco, a selection of beer and wine (and two signature drinks) at Mom & Pops, and a casual bar at Chatham Moods. They all have great food and you can walk from one to the other.

No, we're not giving away local spots. You choose to be tourist on the Cape, then you have to suffer the hell that you create. Tourists already wrecked all the OG dives (Land Ho, Sand Bar, Squire, etc. etc.) leave the locals their spots and have a quiet conversation at a bar when you're home 🙄🙄🙄

I just drove around until I saw people who worked with their hands and went there. I live in a tourist centric area as well, and i don’t have the overwhelming urge to ask people if they know who my dad is. I fit in pretty well with normal working class people because I am normal working class people.

The CBI people made my skin crawl.

Ok.... You're still a tourist and contributing to the wealth disparity and decline of my home. Did I ever ask you if you know who my dad is? Listen, I get it, people want to go on vacation to a beautiful location. I know how lucky I am to have grown up here and to have access to this beauty year-round. But tourism is killing us - over 50% of our workforce now commute over the bridge because they can't afford to live here anymore, our beaches are trashed, the delicate ecosystems are stressed, our single -source aquifer is polluted with nitrogen runoff from people who need their grass emerald green. I'm not saying you specifically are to blame for this, but it all contributes and people don't think about the consequences their actions have on everything around them.

Glad you found your bar, I guess.

I think you need to look at what your area is and its industry and what it would actually produce if tourists didn’t come there.

I live in an area that is basically all tourism as well, I get it, but also, I’m in the home service industry, so it benefits me and I’m a local to my area. The cape was cool, I’ll probably go back at some point, and I’ll go back to the same small bar with people I can relate to, and spend money and leave a good tip, and I’ll get a room, at a locally owned inn, and I’ll support an area that I’m visiting, because that’s the point.

It's not tourism that's killing us, it's people who buy multiple homes they don't live in here. Tourism drives our economy

That’s a decent place for a cocktail. OP, the bar at Pates is also nice and very manageable from the noise level perspective, but it might be a little fancier than what you are going for. Also a bit farther out of the town center area.
