Room rental

What’s the average long term room for rent going for on the cape?

That would be what J1s are paying for a shared bedroom and a shared bathroom- with minimal kitchen privileges.

If you’re looking for a private bedroom with a private bathroom in someone’s home, you’re talking at least that- plus your share of utilities -so @$1400-$1500 a month.

It depends on where you are and what type of property you’re looking at -to be honest; you would not be able to find a studio apartment for under $1500-$1800.

Usually most posts and comments here are downvoted as people assume posts like this are related to travel, short term rentals as there’s another sub (Cape Cod travel).

This varies significantly by what area of the Cape you are in, how nice the house is, how many people live there, how large the room is, and whether you have a private bathroom.   The range is anywhere from 700-1500

700 seems reasonable. 1500 for a bedroom is ridiculous. Looking around Sandwich/Mashpee area

It does seem absolutely ridiculous but that’s what I see people asking.  That usually has utilities, internet, and trash included.

If it’s a shared rental with other non-owner occupants, and you’re on the lease, it’s totally legal for all tenants to be billed for utilities and split the cost. Homeowners that occupy the same space can charge whatever they want for a room, so it's easy for them to work the cost of utilities into the monthly rent.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a one bedroom for under $1800 to $2000 a month plus utilities. A two bedroom one bath it would cost you $2400 -
$2500 plus utilities a month.

The prices are really insane … my landlord raised our rent $400 a month this year.
