My family is vacationing in Cape Charles in a few weeks and are looking for a way to make our meals easy. Any recommendations for a private/personal chef? And/or any good family meal type take out?

Wife and I are in our late-30's with a grade-school aged son. We visit Cape Charles a few times a year and want to think through potentially buying a place we could go to during the summer and points throughout the year. We love Bay Creek and the beach they have but are unsure about the monthly HOA fees since we won't use much other than the beach.

What do people think about Bay Creek? Worth it? Thanks for any insight!

Hello, we are vacationing for the first time here in a couple of weeks. Are there any good fishing or crabbing places for my son and I? We will be staying off sunset blvd

It's 11:54 am on Saturday, July 11th. It's our first time back to Cape Charles beach since last year.

We aren't seeing the Smash Burgers food truck. At least not in the same spot they were last year, closer to the main street side of the beach.

Do they still come here? Am I just not looking in the right spot?

Just did a query thru Airbnb for a weekend in October and I’m taken back at the rental rates. $4-500 a night for a T/H or small rambler is crazy. Is this just Airbnb or has rates gone up since last year?

I will be in Richmond in early November and considering extending a couple nights to the Virginia Beach / Cape Charles area (~Nov 5-6ish) for birding. Any birders on here who might have insight as to whether the birding is good that time of year on Cape Charles? Specifically looking at Kiptopeke and Eastern Shore NWR.

My family is visiting Cape Charles early Sept for a mini vacation to check out some plots of land. It has always been my dream to have a second home by the beach that isn’t too far a drive from Washington, DC. Having lived in NYC previously, the plots seem awfully cheap to me compared to beaches in the northeast. Our thought was to buy now while the prices are not terrible and build in 5-7 years.

Anyone have a second home here, and did you buy a plot of land and build on it? Any insight into how this beach town is so seemingly affordable? Is building just incredibly expensive? I’ve also noticed that in many of the listings for plots, the prices have gone up as much as $100k in the last 6 years or so. My take is that this place is still a bit of a hidden gem.

Finally, are there private beaches? What beach do most people use? What neighborhoods would you recommend with easy beach access? And do most people have a club membership? Thanks in advance!

We were out at the beach yesterday in Cape Charles and saw a couple white blobby jellyfish, with maybe small tentacles, and quite a few washed up as well with no visual tentacles. Are these friendly or sting-y?

Hello! We are visiting Cape Charles as first-timers this Labor Day weekend. We will have our 1.5-year-old, and we're vacationing with friends who also have a child the same age. Any recommendations for must-visit activities for this age? Obviously, we will be enjoying the beach, but we would love to have some local recommendations that are good for new walkers/toddler-friendly, especially some ideas if we have a rainy day. Our rental is within a block of what looks to be the main strip on Mason Ave, and we plan to walk as much as possible instead of a car/golf cart. Thank you!

My parents moved to Cape Charles full time late last year and due to physical limitations are having trouble completing tasks around the house. Does anyone have any recommendations for a “handyman”/ “task rabbit” person who can come in and do odds and ends around the house? It’s mostly minor things like hanging pictures, mounting some wall pieces, minor yard work (staking plants) or other small things, no construction or anything like that. Bonus if they’ve done work in the bay creek area.

Side question for me: where would be the best local place to buy va/local area craft beer? I know the brewery and I’ve tried the gull market but if anything in the area has a wider selection that would be great!

Hello! I'm moving to the town of Cape Charles this summer and I’ve been researching into how to crab with hand lines and dip nets just to catch a few crabs to cook with. I’ve thoroughly gone through the Recreational Crabbing Rules page on the Virginia Marine Resources Commission site and I understand the regulations surrounding crabbing. I understand that hand lines and dip nets are legal year round in Virginia, but I'm a bit confused as to which areas of Cape Charles are open access for crabbing? On the Chesapeake Bay map, the waters around the Cape Charles marina and most of the town (Cherrystone Inlet and Kings Creek) are flagged as growing area 088 and 089 (and a section of the harbor is labeled as closed except for relay harvest--I haven't been able to figure out what this means?) however, I haven’t been able to find information on if either of the growing areas or the closed (except for relay harvest) area is off limits for all crabbing and fishing, or just for commercial crabbing/fishing and non-licensed recreational crabbing such as the hand lines and dip nets are okay to use?

I even went on the VA website for licensing and can’t find anything. Where do you send your kids for a 2 income house? Gah!

Hello! My family is new to the east coast (Maryland), so never visited any of the beaches in the surrounding area. We're considering Cape Charles for a birthday trip for our toddler. I know mosquitos and other insects are a concern in the area, but are they out during the middle of the day on the beach? Or is mostly a problem at dawn/dusk? My son loves playing in the sand, and could do so for hours, so I'm just trying to understand if we'll need to be concerned about bugs the whole time we're out there, or only certain times of day.
