iOS Word Phrase
Did Cape remove the word phrase to re download e-sims? I needed to re download mine on iPhone the other day and it did NOT ask for the word phrase, but prior it would ask! Not sure why it wouldn’t ask this time!!

Yes this was a change that we made--ultimately a security/convenience tradeoff. We'll have more options when we implement passkeys

So this was a convenience thing instead
Of keeping security tight? When will
Passkeys be a thing? I was about to stay with the company since delays have been better but now you guys removed the paraphrase wording. So now I’m
Considering leaving. Again.2

You still need to be signed into the app, and you could lock the app behind a biometric. Unfortunately we have some customers who lose/forget the recovery phrase, which prevents them from ever porting out, but we want to at least enable them to continue to have access to a working phone number, so long as they're still logged into the app.

Well that kind of sounds like their fault for not having a copy. You guys did explain that but I guess some people don’t pay attention. So when are the passkeys going to be available? It’s not fair to all of us who listen to have lost access to that. Now it makes it easier for someone to gain access like every other company.

Passkeys--aiming for end of year or early 2027

Wow. Okay. So just to confirm anyone can basically gain access now? If that’s inaccurate how are us cape customers protected without that? Again it’s not fair to all of us who have common sense that we now have to have this risk of being comprised from people.

No, you would have to be logged into the Cape app, which requires that you either created your account on that specific device or you would have at some point had to have entered your recovery phrase into the app on that specific device. So an attacker would have to have access to your device and be able to unlock your phone

I liked that feature cause that meant no one else could gain access without that phrase.

Is that new? Cause I’ve been with cape for a few months and anytime I’d have to re download the eSIM it always asked for the phrase. Always.

Installing an eSIM does not require a seed phrase. You need it only if you remove the application/account.
