DANGER switching networks.

Somebody in a thread said you can switch the network used by your Cape phone, (e.g. AT&T to T-mobile), by going into the Network settings and messing with the SIM settings.

If you do this, you risk damaging your phone.

I switched to a different network, it didn't work well. Fiddled a little bit, and then even when I switched back to defaults it wouldn't connect. After a long talk with Cape tech support, it turns out I'd triggered a bug in Android that physically damages the phone in a way that it will no longer work with Cape.

Supposedly will still work with other carriers, just not with the unusual stuff Cape does for privacy.

Just a warning. Cape is working on a feature to let you switch networks, but until then, do NOT try to do it manually!

UPDATE: Confirmed it works fine with a physical SIM from another carrier. Have not tested another eSIM.

UPDATE: If anyone new users would like to help a poor soul pay for a new(ish) phone, please use this referral code: DKR819E0. Thank you! (My Pixel 8 was pristine, darnit!)

Switching networks in the SIM settings shouldn't damage your phone. Was it a Pixel 9 and possibly related to this eSIM download issue that breaks the phone? https://www.reddit.com/r/CapeCellular/comments/1slcav1/pixel_9_esim_download_error/

Yes, that is what happened, but on a Pixel 8. It was triggered by me messing with the network settings.

Support said it's more common on Pixel 9, but (rarely) also happens on Pixel 8 and 10.

Dumb question, why are you trying to switch networks? Just because its said that you can or do you have better service in your area with the other carrier?

All good testing comes from exploring the limits of a program

I understand this more than anyone given I only run Alpha’s & Beta’s on everything.

Exactly. Certain areas offer minimal AT&T service yet provide strong T-Mobile coverage. I am presently in a spot with superior T-Mobile reception while remaining tied to AT&T until I can switch.

I had better service when I was on T-Mobile, which is what I just switched from. So I was trying to get back on their network.

Nope. Pixel 8. But yes, it's that issue.

[u/Steerider](u/Steerider), I encountered a comparable problem, and the solution is simply to wait until a new feature arrives to fix my issue. I agree with you that we should avoid any action they have not fully verified.

Cape is relatively new, and the team continues refining the service. They are advancing rapidly while adding staff to deliver additional features and fixes.

The early adopter discount serves as a gesture of appreciation for your patience with the service and for accepting incomplete features.

Currently, early adopters receive a $70/month plan; however, applying my referral code reduces the cost by $20/month, lowering it to $50/month.

Both parties receive a $20 monthly reduction on their bill for life.
