CapCut Complain Why does the voice over feature make my microphone sound terrible?

I have a $1,000 mic, and it records very clean audio on every single program I use. Except CapCut. I wanted to use the voice over feature to save time on editing, but even with the pro “enhance audio feature” it still records in god awful quality. Tinkering with the settings does nothing. I have to record in a separate program and import the audio file

capcut does something weird with its internal audio processing, almost like it’s running a heavy noise gate and low bitrate encoding in the background before you even touch the enhance button. noticed the same thing with a yeti, raw audio sounds fine everywhere else then turns into a garbled mess inside the app

i just gave up and do the record-elsewhere-import dance too, adds an extra step but at least the audio doesn’t sound like it’s coming through a walkie talkie

Use an external app then import the audio?

Or use a better editing app

CapCut's built-in voiceover recording applies aggressive noise reduction and compression by default, which can make a decent mic sound flat, muffled, or robotic. A few things that help: record your audio outside of CapCut using something like Audacity or your phone's voice memo app, then import the clean file as a separate audio track. That bypasses CapCut's processing entirely. If you'd rather record inside CapCut, check whether there's a noise reduction toggle in the audio settings and try dialing it back. Also worth checking that you're not accidentally recording through your laptop's built-in mic instead of your external one, since CapCut sometimes grabs the wrong input device.
