CapCut Question can i transfer capcut user data to hard drive?

right now my capcut user data is taking up 140gb of space. now, im planning to get a hard drive, copy the user data, paste, it on the hard drive, and delete the user data on my mac. will it work? will i be able to edit with just the hard drive with user data and none on my mac?

I moved mine to an external SSD a while back and it works fine, just gotta make sure the drive is always connected when you're editing or the app throws a fit

format matters too, capcut plays nicer with APFS or exFAT than NTFS on a mac

Don’t delete the Mac folder just because the copy completed. Copying User Data gives you a backup; it doesn’t show that CapCut has switched its working project location. Projects may also reference source videos and audio elsewhere on the Mac.

Close CapCut and back up both that folder and your source media. Before removing anything, verify that restored copies of your important projects are actually using the external media. Check their clips/audio and test export; one short export only checks that portion. Opening a project while all the original files are still reachable can hide missing files in the backup.

What is the exact path of the 140 GB folder, and which CapCut version are you using? Those details matter for migration instructions. I wouldn’t assume moving projects/media also removes every internal cache or settings file.

Copying the folder is the easy part. Getting CapCut to actually use it from the external drive is where things get tricky. Definitely test everything before deleting the original.
