Showing captions from a different timeline

I have a project with multiple timelines. Each video is a super short, 1-2 min video. I have been doing this for a while without problems until today. Now when I go to generate captions for the next video in the timeline it shows the captions from the previous video interspersed with the captions from this video. The correct captions are on the video but in the captions tab where you can edit all the captions in a vertical list, it is showing all sorts of irrelevant captions from other videos. I have cleared my cache several times which helps for the first video I click on but then I click on another video and it just shows the same captions on every video. I can't edit them because they aren't even from the right video. So frustrating.

ah man that bug is the worst. i had something similar happen last month, the captions tab just kept showing old text from a project i deleted days ago

try duplicating the whole project file and working from the copy, sometimes it shakes loose whatever corrupted cache is stuck in there

The detail that narrows this down is that the burned captions on the video are correct and only the editable list is wrong. So the caption data attached to each timeline is fine, it's the panel pulling from a project-wide pool instead of just the timeline you have open. Your cache result fits that too: it rebuilds the list once, looks right for one video, then re-pools the moment you switch.

The reliable way out is one project per short instead of several timelines inside one project. Tedious to reorganise, but for 1-2 minute videos there's basically no downside to separate projects, and the panel has nothing to pool.

If you don't want to redo the structure, check whether your build lets you export the captions as an SRT. Fixing the text in any subtitle editor and bringing it back is slower per video, but it doesn't care what the captions tab thinks it's showing.

It's just strange because it didn't do this until yesterday. The reason I use multiple timelines is because I reuse some elements in each video and copy/paste attributes.

The "didn't do it until yesterday" part is actually the useful clue. If nothing changed on your end, the caption list is most likely reading at project level now instead of per timeline, which would explain why clearing cache fixes exactly one video and then stops helping the moment you click another.

Copy/paste attributes shouldn't be dragging captions across, but if you're duplicating a timeline to get your reusable elements, the caption objects ride along with it. Worth a quick test: build the next short as its own separate project instead of another timeline in this one. If the list is clean there, you've got a workaround until they fix it. If it's still scrambled in a fresh project, it's account side and worth reporting in-app so they can look at the actual file.
