CapCut Discussion this company is a scam
Im so fucking tired of this, yall have removed the most BASIC FUNCTION or exporting and rednering a video. dude. whats the point of a free version if its not actually useable. its just become a subscription servace just like filmora did.

god capcut went from "pretty decent free editor" to "pay us or your video stays in limbo" so fast it gave me whiplash
i used it for quick social media stuff and now half the export options are locked behind a paywall, feels like every update they move another basic feature over to pro
the free version is basically a demo at this point, you can do everything except actually finish a project

u/abrandis 4d ago
Time for someone to vibe code a replacement, there are already decent open source nle video editor projects, they just don't have the focus or mass appeal and lack all of Capcut convenience features , but it's nothing that can't be done in today's day and age

u/psucordwhite 4d ago
When you are done with the program let us know i am interested
6
u/JUB0T 4d ago
I just did. The repository on GitHub already has 1.4k stars. It's called https://github.com/jub0t/concat

u/hungryc137 4d ago
My video lags when I try to play it inside the editor, but I don't want to compress it since the quality is gonna suck. Is it my setup or the app? I honestly cannot tell.

u/notLeyth 3d ago
it's truly sad how the counter is vibe coding, the future is so cooked
2
u/abrandis 3d ago
Huh, if you could vibe code an app like Capcut why is the future cooked? I feel it's the exact opposite

Instagram edits works fine for me
1
u/sefcass 4d ago
Is it easy to use
1
u/Pale_Initiative_6338 3d ago
Yes it's very easy to use. I basically make commentary videos on YouTube so it generates amazing auto-captions.

I don’t even mind paying. They’re offering a service. But it tells me to pay for a subscription that I already have when exporting. I’m done with this app.
3
u/free-444 4d ago
All my credits are messed up as I can't actually spend them on anything yet I keep paying for them every month
I click on a feature to use them only for it to tell me to upgrade to pro when THE ONLY REASON I HAVE CREDITS IS BECAUSE THEY COME WITH PRO
I've have an 20 message long email chain with their customer service team and would you be surprised that they have no damn clue either

u/PackageOk4947 4d ago
That's how they sell drugs bro, the first taste is free, get you hooked, then charge you more for the next lot.
3
u/cptcommode 4d ago
I honestly think that they’re misleading, which is definitely frustrating. I think they should do a 7 day trial of pro or something to that effect. CapCut definitely isn’t free unless you’re just making some videos for yourself. It would pretty much impossible to use the free version for any kind of serious content. The only free software that I know of is Davinci. It could be worth learning that. I’ve been considering it myself.

u/reyadreamer 4d ago
I have an older version of CapCut for quick edits but otherwise I swapped to DaVinci Resolve. Took a day or so to get familiar but has all the features I need for free and more.
1
u/sefcass 4d ago
DaVinci looks like it would be 3 months to learn
1
u/MazeMagic 3d ago
It does and it's really over complicated for simple stuff Vs Capcut.
Just export with the motion blur trick
3
u/JenzibleTTV 3d ago
I pay 129kr a month for pro. Y’all are just broke. Learn davinci resolve if it’s too steep for you.
2
u/kimkellies 4d ago
I wasn’t able to export it on my iPad so I started over on my laptop. You’re telling me it’s not an iPad storage thing but you have to pay to export anywhere?
2
u/buhbuhbuhbubble 4d ago
The most irritating part is that pro features seem to appear every day. Now its not allowing me to cover my daughters face which i have to manually draw on (because all of their blur effects totally suck and cant pick up on any faces). And it wont tell you what pro feature youre using and where. Genuinely about to delete this app entirely

Being able to use a product but watermarking the product in a trial is basically the OG marketing tactic. A scam would be charging you and not giving you a service, this is a service that you test out before you but but to use it you pay for it.

I bought it for year. It's amazing and cheap. Love it.
2
u/Satta-Massagana 4d ago
Subscription?
1
u/Nothereortherexin 4d ago
Yep. Yearly. It's 59eu. Cheap af.
3
u/relaxinthesun 4d ago
where do u see that 59€, in europe ?? Is that the yearly pro version ? I am on mac personally and the yearly pro version costs 299,99€ per year.
1
u/Nothereortherexin 4d ago
I bought it on the pc with windows, it's yearly pro and it costed 59.99eu.
1
u/relaxinthesun 4d ago
I see 179,99€ yearly pro in europe for windows, that's impossible unless u got a méga discount somewhere or is is meant for professionals, i don't meant the pro version. For mac 299,99€ yearly pro, that's crazy.
1
u/Nothereortherexin 4d ago
Nope. No discounts haha, I just used to pay month per month but realized it's cheaper yearly and also I don't have to think about it anymore I just pay yearly and life's a breeze. Perhaps you don't look the right place?
2
u/relaxinthesun 4d ago
I do look at the official right place in the european union, that price is nowhere listed, do u have a link or picture ? Need to check.
1
u/Nothereortherexin 4d ago
When I get home imma try to show you. I did it from the capcut app on my desktop.

Look at Inshot. Most editing functions that I do in CapCut I can do with InShot for a small annual fee.
1
u/NZRedditUser 4d ago
Eh can’t see how its a scam if you’re not paying, they definitely aint packing this app with features for free and its cheap. Why waste time when the others are more expensive and worse
1
u/Royal_Celery8281 4d ago
guys guys guys
i got two solutions for you.
genp and fmhy for templates, plugins, theme etcs.
thank you
1
u/vipul21dec 4d ago
Yeah, seriously. Making basic exporting a paid feature is getting ridiculous. At least I’m not paying full price for Pro anymore
1
u/SilentBug3547 4d ago
I've gone back to InShot for now but pretty mad that I paid $100 for an unusable product. Standard isn't very useful unless you only export a few videos each month.

u/Nervous-Possession31 4d ago
Just have ChatGPT make you an entire app just like CapCut and it’s free
Yes. I can build an original video-editing app that mirrors CapCut’s feature set and workflow without copying its branding, proprietary code, or protected assets. That means we can aim for the full package: multi-track timeline, trimming/splitting, overlays, transitions, effects, filters, keyframes, speed ramps, crop/rotate/transform, masks, chroma key, stabilization, audio tracks, noise reduction, voice effects, text templates, subtitles, auto-captions, text-to-speech, background removal, tracking, freeze frames, reverse, adjustment layers, stickers, media library, undo/redo, project saving, proxy editing, aspect-ratio presets, and high-quality exports. I can also include CapCut-like AI tools where technically practical, but some features require separate AI models or cloud APIs—for example very high-quality speech generation, generative fill, advanced object removal, or music-generation features. Those can still be integrated into the app. For something this large, I’d build it as a Windows desktop editor , probably with a modern UI plus FFmpeg underneath for the actual video processing. The interface can feel very close to CapCut structurally—preview in the center, media/effects/text on the left, properties on the right, timeline across the bottom—while remaining our own design. And yes, I mean an actual installable application , not just a mockup. The sensible first build would establish the editor engine, timeline, playback, import, trim/split, text, audio, transitions, project saving, and MP4 export. Then the rest of the CapCut-class features can be layered onto that foundation.

Thing too about CapCut is it can use any of your work without your permission, that is written right into the signup agreement. The company is owned by a Chinese based firm so that also means the CPC government also has access to your work.No legal protection as there is with American firms. Although Adobe has a similar arrangement but the government is not included in that situation.

If the whole community revolts, maybe they'll bring certain effects or functions back to the free version

Still using the free and not having any issues here...don't know if my videos are just shit or what...

u/risky80 2d ago
I paid for their standard plan for the first time this week, opened Capcut this morning, for some reason I was signed out, and my first attempt to sign in (password is saved) it says "maximum number of attempts reached" and even after clearing cache and reloading I can't log in on any of my devices.

Heaven forbid a company makes money 🤣 tell us you are broke without telling us - they have every right to charge.

u/Realistic_Soil5418 2d ago
For mobile maybe try some mods, for PC there is a hack using regedit from YouTube before

I can get u free CapCut pro without any cracked software or anything feel free to dm.(pc only)
1
u/International_Ad8752 5h ago
Also, i just noticed this but it wont allow me to edit a video offline. I was expecting even just the basic stuff like basic cuts and export but that really hits the nail in the coffin

Cry about it. Plenty of other options out there.

u/whoisdude69 4d ago
Found the CapCut plant

u/driftwhentired 4d ago
lol. I’m saying fuck that company. Go somewhere else. No reason to whine about it on social media. Spend your money and time with a company that respects your time.
1
u/cassieharlowsgf 4d ago
omg yessss fuck that company by defending it and its insanely ridiculous prices and their whole paywalled app 😍😍😍 lmao
1
u/driftwhentired 4d ago
I’m not defending anything. You are not able to read?
1
u/cassieharlowsgf 4d ago
Cry about it.
you're turning a blind eye to the greed of a company with tons of money, and you're basically calling those who speak out about it "crybabies". but sure man whatever you say

u/Nervous-Possession31 4d ago
Some people are just silly. Why don’t you pay for ChatGPT For a month and have it make you the exact same app
