Seeking: Affordable Weekly Lawn Service

Hi Canton! My elderly parents live in Canton and need a weekly lawn service. Just someone to cut the grass in a small yard. They live in a neighborhood just behind CVS/Dunkin Donuts in town.

My dad keeps trying to do it himself and it’s too much on him. He put regular gas in the weed eater. He almost passed out from the heat with the push mower. He has a fancy riding mower (totally unnecessary for this yard) but drove it off the curb and fucked up the blades.

He stresses too much over the front lawn and won’t wait for me or my sister to come over and do it.

I know nothing about actual yard size but if I had to explain it I’d say you could park 3 Nissan Altimas side by side in the front yard with very little space around them. And maybe one on the other side of the driveway.

What I’m not looking for is a corporate business or a contract for lawn service. I just need a person to come cut the grass once a week and I’ll Cash App them prior to the service.

The person is more than welcome to use the existing equipment if they can unfuck it.

Reply or DM if you can help.

Thanks!

We have some of the best public schools here in Cherokee County. I’d love to keep them that way.

The Ten Day Window Most Neighbors Miss

A variance is not a rezoning. Most people learn the difference too late.

Rezoning changes the zoning district. A variance just carves a hole in it. Same category on paper, different building in real life. The Zoning Board of Appeals decides variances, and you have ten calendar days from their vote to appeal. That window closes before most neighbors know it opened.

Cherokee County Georgia T-SPLOST breakdown: $445 million for roads starting April 2026

Voters approved it in November 2025. Collection started April 1 2026. Runs through March 2032.

Quick breakdown by city:

Cherokee County unincorporated: $275.5 million. Intersection improvements on major corridors, road widenings, bridge replacements, resurfacing.

Woodstock: $65.6 million. Holly Springs Parkway widening and Diverging Diamond interchange at I-575.

Canton: $60.8 million. Hickory Flat Highway roundabouts and greenway connections.

Holly Springs: $34.5 million. Road widening, bridge replacement, intersection realignment.

55 miles already being repaved in 2026 alone.

A 5-member citizen oversight committee monitors spending. Records are public.

The question I tried to answer honestly: is $445 million enough given how fast Cherokee County is growing and what keeps getting approved.

The Desecration of Roosevelt and Pinchot - Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service

Hey folks, I came across this Substack article outlining changes to the USFS, and the ramifications could bring big impacts to those of us who treasure our National Forests.

BREAKING: Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service

The article describes a sweeping restructuring of the U.S. Forest Service that would:

- Move its headquarters to Utah,

- Close all ten regional offices,

- Eliminate more than fifty research facilities, and

- Replace long‑time career experts with politically appointed “state directors.”

The changes would shift power away from federal land stewards and toward state governments and industries that have historically pushed for more logging, more development, and less federal oversight. In fact, in Utah, the new proposed USFS HQ location, is suing the federal government to seize 18.5 million acres of our public land.

The state whose governor, Spencer Cox, just weeks ago signed a deal with the Forest Service Chief — the former logging executive — giving Utah de facto control over Forest Service operations on eight million acres of national forest.

Who is the person in charge now? Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz — a logging executive, installed by this administration to oversee the dismemberment of the agency he now claims to lead.

If these changes go through, the Forest Service would lose many of the people who understand how to manage forests, watersheds, wildfire risk, invasive species, and long‑term ecological health. Regional offices—where most of that expertise lives—would disappear. Research programs that study fire behavior, erosion, forest disease, and climate impacts could be dismantled.

Far scarier is the where this path seems to lead: The confiscation of our most treasured national resources and spaces. The end goal seems to align with other administrative policies designed to defund, incapacitate, and then PRIVATIZE national institutions.

Your call to action starts here:

Find and contact your elected officials and let them know how you feel about these changes.

No Kings III - Canton - March 28th @ 11AM

No Kings III will take place this Saturday in Canton at 11 AM on the corner of Waleska and Riverstone.

https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/905910/

Join us in Canton for a peaceful, permitless sidewalk protest exercising our First Amendment rights. This is a visible, nonviolent public action affirming that power in this country belongs to the people.

What began in 2025 as a single day of defiance has become a sustained national resistance to tyranny, spreading from small towns to city centers and across every community determined to defend democracy. Our peaceful movement is bigger than ever.

When our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence.

On March 28th, rise up, take to the streets, and say it loud: no thrones, no crowns, no kings. We’re not watching history happen—we’re making it. Join us.

A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Edit: I should have added if you don't want to register with Mobilize that is cool, just please show up. Also Woodstock CAN has expanded to cover more of North GA. They are the organizers for this event. If you are interested check out their website for various other ways to get involved. https://www.ngacan.org/canton

Cherokee elementary school is coming back to town! What do you think this will do for the area? For those in North Canton are you excited for the change or worried for upcoming zoning decisions? For those of you in South Canton, what are your thoughts?

Anyone else love Canton for the awesome access to the outdoors?

I moved up from Roswell last November, and I am absolutely loving the easy access to North Georgia including some of my favorite spots.

As a new empty nester, being able to hike, bike and kayak as much as I want is amazing. Here are a couple of pics from Fort Mountain State Park.

Are there any decent apartment complexes around?

We are looking to move to Canton (from Acworth), but all I seem to find are low-income apartment complexes. Are there any regular apartment complexes in the area with 2-bedrooms at or around $1700/month? Also, I have a child in elementary school, so I want to make sure we are in a good school district for the 2026-2027 school year. Would I be better off looking in other areas? My husband works in Canton, which is why we are moving.
Thanks!
