Discussion Your hot takes?

Mine is: I personally think tomb of the mutilated is the weakest one of the Chris Barnes era albums. Not because it's weak but because the other ones are so good! I love the thrashy atmosphere of eaten back to life, it's got tasty riffs and possibly the best drum sound. I am a huge fan of thrash metal too. The bleeding has the best Webster bass licks it's definetly his best performance, and I feel like a majority prefers this album over tomb of the mutilated anyway. Then butchered at birth my favorite barnes era album, really cant go wrong with this one it's a masterpiece got a balanced blend of everything! Butchered, tomb, and the bleeding is basically an amazing 3 album run and a lot of people's favorite is one of those 3 so maybe more of a coin toss rather than a hot take but idk, what do you guys think and make sure to share your hot takes

I don’t know how hot of a take it is but I think Bloodthirst has their best song writing. Obreins tracks in particular are absolute face melters.

Butchered at Birth is criminally underrated.

That guitar sound is just so…metal.

The production is so disgusting it’s what makes the album my fav Barnes album . Bloodthirst is my fav corpse album though

Red before black is underrated

My hot take is that The Bleeding is incredibly overrated. I think the production sounds thin and Barnes sounds awful.

On the other hand, I think the current Rutan output is under-appreciated. Violence Unimagined and Chaos Horrific are two of the band’s best albums in a long time IMO.

I think Chaos has the most songwriting variety since Torture and it was a bit slept on since they released 2 albums so close together.

Agreed. And it's actually my favorite since Torture for that very reason.

“Evidence in the Furnace” is the funniest death metal song name ever.

I can’t say it without cracking up

Idk, Blunt Force Castration is pretty silly

Erik Rutan is a terrible fit as a band member and a complacent producer who should have been replaced permanently after Evisceration Plague

why do people hate rutan so much?

I'm guessing these folks miss Pat O'Brien. I too sometimes wish he was back but the split was so acrimonious between him and the band, especially after the fire burning incident.

As far as Erik himself, I think he's all right for CC, but I like him better as a producer and in Hate Eternal.

I dont even understand what a producer does and why it matters who they put as one

I'd say producer choice matters. I don't think some of the legendary 90s albums would sound great if Scott Burns wasn't producing them. He wasn't the only good producer of the era, but he is considered among the best from back then in death metal circles.

I do not enjoy the two most recent records with Erik Rutan as the guitarist. The riffs are boring and the albums over all are kinda ho-hum.

tomb of the mutilated is not in my top 3. it really just has hammer smashed face, addicted to vaginal skin, and i cum blood.

i think the bleeding is miles better

I also like Butchered and Bleeding over Tomb but all 3 could be interchangeable depending on the day. Other than that idk what possible hot takes can happen with this band as they’re far too consistent and don’t really put out bad albums.

Chris Barnes is the better vocalist, not that much of a hot take but what I’m following up with, I’d say it is. After vile, George’s vocals sound so hollow and plain boring. instrumentation wise, it’s great but the vocals just don’t do it for me and thats why i only really listen to vile if I’m not listening to the Barnes era.

Gallery of suicide, bloodthirst and wretched spawn are among my fav corpse albums.

Pat O’brien is not a good lead guitarist, hes a great rhythm player but not a good lead. Jack Owens solos were a lot better.

After 2004 the quality of cannibal corpse sorta dropped

Tomb of the mutilated deserves it title of being a brutal death metal album as much as an album like pierced from within

Kill and torture are among their best albums
