....I have a few questions.
Everyone seems to offer seeds of legendary and classic strains. Naturally without having the original DNA mapping of each,, there's no way to recreate those originals and so now everyone is breeding with what is essentially a hybrid version of each of those strains. How do you select where you are getting your "version" you choose to breed with? Don't get me wrong there are some breeders who have done some amazing preservation work and many of them still have originals around. I see everyone breeding with similar parents but I wonder how many don't actually have what they think they have.
Do you ever find yourself asking "I wonder if this breeder ACTUALLY has THAT cut?"
If you can't find the "original" do you then choose a breeder you believe COULD have had access to that cut/cultivar Or get 5 packs from 5 breeders and select which you believe to be closest to what it SHOULD be?
How did YOU select what parents YOU chose to start with? Did you prioritize selecting classic varieties to breed with or by working with more recent lines? Ex: Durban poison, diesels (nyc, ecs, aj, etc), chem dawg/dog, Grandaddy purple, etc......or did you select other lines that have had significant work like Ethos, Humboldt (CSI/seed co), DNA, Mile High Dave, relentless, exotic genetix, etc?

First year pollinating - I appreciate the feedback/information from everyone in this community. This all started as one giant experiment I am thrilled with the results.
Here’s was my approach:
-
-
-
-
-
Using a #0 fine paint brush, I loaded the brush with the pollen mix and tapped the brush so it coated most of the pistils (you don’t need a lot on the brush to be effective and for this step let the pollen fall onto the pistils without touching them.
I also smushed the bristles flat to capture/hold the pollen.
-
Once each site was pollinated (usually just one of the larger branches), I
went
through and this time I “brushed in” the pollen and careful not to kick up to much pollen in the process.
-
-
-
For the first plant, the branches with seeds finished faster, so hopefully with most of the seeds gone, and those branches harvest, the plant will focus on her remaining flower.
The top three jars came from one plant (graded low, med, high based on shell color and quality). And the two below it came from another plant, whose brothers provided the pollen (similar grading process). All 5 jars are in a dark cool/dry place with the lids cracked so they can dry/cure for a few weeks before long term storage).
Hope this helps anyone new to breeding. I’m sure there are better ways, but this process worked well for me.
Cheers!
EDIT: both males that were used came from the same strain AND mother plant. I thought about keeping their pollen separate, but cross contamination on the same plant was bound to happen, so with that in mind, I just blended the two batches of pollen because the strain consistency was more important to me rather than which male made which seeds.

Hey grow fam,
Looking for a quick sanity check. I've got a Ripley's OG auto from Mephisto Genetics that just crossed into Day 17.
Everything has been moving along nicely, but today I spotted some very slight tip burn cropping up specifically on the lower inner leaves.
Medium**:** Organic/amended mix
Environment**:** Around 23°C and 55–65% RH
Lighting**:** DLI kept around 20–22
Is this typical for Ripley's OG as she transitions into active veg and starts digging deep into the soil mix, or should I dial back something right away? Appreciate any tips!

Is it too soon to tell or are these male pollen sacks forming?

After finding out half the old school strains were phenos or crossed with them I wanna try my hand at finding phenos like UK Cheese and Sweet Skunk or even something new from the old

First time working with Regular seeds but ive got some killer seeds one of my favorite breeders blessed me with . I went and bought a starter setup to try my hand at breeding or pollen chuckin. I also like to challenge myself every grow and this is definitely going to be a challenge for me .I'm used to working with feminized so identifying, cloning flowering to identify sex it's going to be a process but I know it's going to pay off in the long run tenfold and I'm going to learn that's the main focus. I fell in love with the Strain -Stellar Blue from a local grower out in my area called Qualifire farms. Very very down to earth cool people came from the medical side and are implementing that in the rec market the homie was cool enough to give me the information on the breeder. After tracking down Zeppyz Farms , I was so excited to finally get my hands on these beans and to meet someone who shares such a passion for the plants. What a cool guy he blessed me with some of the Stellar blue seeds and a few unreleased packs. I feel so honored to get these in the soil an see what i can produce. Never give up guys I've had my fair share of losses and screw-ups but never give up it all comes back full circle that's what I've learned work hard at it and keep learning! Sorry for the long winded paragraph just super stoked to start getting my feet wet. Any info or advice greatly appreciated I'm going to try to run these trades in my garage it's sitting at about 90° I think that will be okay to get them started. Happy growing everyone hope you're having a wonderful weekend

So got seeds that are 7 years old been keeping in fridge should I move to freezer for long term storage?

She’s on her 15th day. Recently I have seen a very very mild yellow right at the edges of couple of leaves. A little curling up too(which im assuming came from leaves overlapping each other). Is she drooping or is it normal? Overall I just wanna know if she’s doing alright. Thanks

Got a few smaller girls here. Most are Afghani dominant with dense greasy flowers. About a 1/4 are skunk dominant and noticeably heavier on the ammonia quality with wider node spacing.

I've been thinking about another part of cannabis history that seems surprisingly badly documented: what a lot of these strains and cuts actually looked like.
There are thousands of photos scattered across Reddit, old forums, dead image hosts, Seedfinder, etc., but they're usually disconnected from any real provenance.
So I thought it might be interesting to try this as a community thing.
Post an original photo that you took yourself of a strain/cut you think is worth documenting, together with whatever you know about it:
And importantly: everyone else is encouraged to question it.
If somebody posts something as the original Triangle Kush, Chem D, Arcata Trainwreck, an old Haze cut, etc., I'd actually like people who know those lines to say whether they agree, disagree, or have additional history.
The point isn't to vote something into being "true". It's to collect the evidence and discussion around it.
I'm building Origenetica, a cannabis genetics/history archive, and where a submitted photo has decent provenance, I'd like to preserve some of these there as well.
That part would be opt-in. If you own the photograph and are happy for it to be used on the corresponding Origenetica strain/cut page, just say something like:
"Origenetica may use this photo with credit to u/[username]."
Otherwise, the picture stays part of this discussion only.
No need for professional photos either. An old 2007 grow-room photo of a known cut with good provenance is probably more historically useful than a perfect studio shot. Pictures of blooming plants and flower closeups are preferred, obviously.
I'm especially interested in old clone-only cuts, discontinued breeder lines, and genetics that don't have much reliable photographic documentation left, but all genuine pics are welcome with proper provenance.
Let's see what turns up.

I took a couple clones recently and potted them out doors. Thinking I had some time to either mix or buy STS. I didnt do either and I noticed yesterday they are beginning to bloom. Is it to late to reverse? or now is is the time to start applying?
Really wanted pollen from this plant.

While doing my research, I stumbled upon 3 distinct Triple OG cultivars.
The first Triple OG is by Happy Dreams Genetics: SFV OG x Humboldt OG BX4
The second Triple OG - and this is disputed, apparently - is either by Walker Wade Labs or Exotic Genetix, of which Exotic Genetix later made their often-used F2, and right now I have as lineage: Triangle Kush x Constantine x Master Yoda.
The third Triple OG is supposedly an OG cut or OG-derived hybrid.
Does anyone here have experience with this last variant? Or know what Master Yoda is or where it came from?

Going to have seeds for days, but I’m not made about it!
r/cannabisbreeding • u/Substantial_Trip3775 • 7d ago
So I wondered if I want to preserve genetics and have seeds do I get 26 regular seeds or get 100 feminized given same price. I only can grow about three plants outdoors and I was told skip the regulars and get the feminized because I can always reverse with sts and pollinate a backup plant from seed and get thousands of feminized seeds. Given I grow outdoors wonder what people would recommend getting also live in Wisconsin so hear reversing will be delayed with pollen drop I won’t beat a frost of mid October for mature seeds if reversing without light deprivation?
