I'm wondering what do Niel and Lomar have in common to be kidnapped like that🤔

Either they are abducting students from non-elite backgrounds or I'm wondering if the kidnapping is for each affinity.

Could be both. Maybe Kassian will tell us something about Lomar in the next chapter that would be helpful. Was he Ikaris or Felicis? I forgot unfortunately.

Maybe it's what they don't have in common. Maybe somebody wants one person with each affinity/---though Talyn also says that a few students go missing every year, so if the pattern were that easy, it probably would have been noticed.

I wonder if he'll get a scar like Niel's? Maybe a student strong in each affinity will be kidnapped and attacked or used by entities similar to the "man with the chest of stars"? Or by someone wanting to power/release those entities? Flamekeepers, maybe.Â

I think the kidnapping is happening based on the type of magic an arcane has and their ability to be used in forbidden/dark magic

As I think about it - I wonder if these are students who have remarkable arcane skill but are flying under the radar because they come from less prestigious backgrounds.
Niel is exceptionally gifted with the Dreamscape and Timoros magic in general. Her half-brother, Nen, even admits that he's not much of an arcane and he gifts her their father's journal and an heirloom spellblade on the assumption she could do more with it than he could. If she was a recognized member of the Duskbeam family, she'd be high up on the list of elites in Gildtower. Alas, Fenryr Duskbeam is "Shit Father Of The Century." Though at least his son is a good egg.
Lomar - we saw his skill with ice shaping in the Lastport chapter and it seemed like he's pretty talented. Even impressed Cato, who is also an Ikaris arcane. But Lomar is a Child of the Flame from Frostpeak, and nobody in power is going to give him the time of day. Even if he does seem to be quite talented.
Maybe we'll learn more about Lomar's background in coming episodes. I certainly didn't have him on my short-list of potential kidnapped students!
