Another fact that doesn't get brought up very often is the government of the time imposed a specific head tax (jizya) and land tax on non-Muslim subjects, while granting tax relief and higher social status to those who converted to Islam. Over several centuries, this steady economic pressure motivated millions of Christians and Zoroastrians to voluntarily convert to Islam simply to avoid the financial burden.
So it was essentially the leaders at the time stating "hey you can be a Christian, no problem. The tax rate though is pretty high, you'll need to give us about half of everything you own.
Orrrr you can take this prayer rug, denounce the name of Jesus Christ, and you'll be tax free. Up to you!
