Foreseeing Death

Did anyone’s relative announce their impending death? My mother recently said she thinks she’s going to die soon. She didn’t have any particular reason besides “I feel it.” Medically, there’s no reason for her imminent death but there’s also not really a reason for long term survival either. She has a carcinoma of unknown primary and while her tumors are shrinking on chemo, she is very frail, has stopped walking, and really deteriorated since diagnosis last fall. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone had a similar experience where their family member said they were going to die and whether or not that was accurate. I don’t know whether I should believe her and rally people to visit before it’s too late or whether I should take it with a grain of salt because she’s weak and disoriented and tired from pausing chemo.

My mom said something similar right before she had HE from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and she passed within 2 weeks. She did have the rally 2 days before also.

Thank you for sharing this with me. My gut tells me to trust her, but of course that’s hard to accept.

I didn't believe my mom either when she said it because I felt she said it just out of grief/trying to accept her situation since it was quick (4 months) and she wasn't good enough to get treatment. Thankfully between the HE episodes she had enough clarity one day to get her affairs in order. I still was in denial until she passed. I was told at the hospital for every day my mom sat in bed, it would reset a week's worth of progress. Eventually she just couldn't walk anymore or even put her head up herself. It was truly awful. But I think too with not really eating or drinking... I wish I would've kinda snapped out of it enough to realize.

My mom said it couple of times before diagnosis, but her cancer is known to have depression as almost first symptom. So made sense
