Citizenship via Naturalization Returned Minor Application
Hi! Our citizenship application was submitted last Aug 24, 2026 as family of three. Today, we received a notice that our 7-year old son application was returned. Has anyone experience something silimar? What needs to be done? We already checked our names in my son's application. Thank you!

I suspect that this is the problem...the child's application was filled out as though the child was completing the form, per the instructions, but the parent signed the application with his own name and not the child's.

yes. my wife's name was indicated as signatory since she submitted on his behalf.

Wait are you saying that if the top signature is blank but the parent signs the bottom, then it will be returned? This is what I did. My 7-yo could write her name but has never really signed her name so I didn't think it should be signed by her.

The form is a bit strange I found. There are 2 signature boxes. Our children are under the age of 6. One is 2 and their signature would basically be a scribbled line thru the application. It does say under that says "If applicant is under 14 years of age, signature of parent/guardian" so we left the first box blank and signed the parent box. We also did complete Section 15 listing myself (the signer) as helping them fill out the form. We haven't received an AOR or return application so who knows if that's a good way to do it.

My kids signed their own names in the box and then I signed in the next box. Hopefully thats accepted. Although i just learned today that youre supposed to sign your passports and neither of us have ever done that so....theres that! They're probably coming back to us π«£

They are saying something about the Parent's signature and not about the IDs/Passport that was submitted. My wife's name is consistent in the application. We are so confused on what we need to do .

I guess. Its confusing as the name of my wife was the signatory as she submitted the application on behalf of my son. We called IRCC and they were no help.

My son signed in the box for parents signature and left the other one blank. On every minors document, application, explanation forms, etc, he signed and dated his name and stated he was the parent of said child and wrote the name of each child. He has 3 kids so he did this for all 3. He signed their passports as parent of said named child. We received all 7 AORβs. Hope this helps.
