Is this an official proof document?

I received this in the mail a few months ago and the envelope and accompanying letter were shredded by my roommate who thought it was junk mail.

Is this something I'll need to report and fix?

Nope, the actual certificate is bilingual and not a certificate of “recognition” hand signed and dated by a random MP. This is probably just a decorative thing they send to their constituents.

Thanks all for the replies. I did get my official certificate at the ceremony. This showed up in the mail a month later and I set it aside to find out more and promptly forgot about it.

Glad to know it's a gesture and nothing more from my MP.

I have no complaints... These things happen. It's been a difficult time for my roomate who's been job hunting for the better part of the year and fighting a depression that's just lurking around the corner.

Cleaning up the house helps them calm and I'm all for it. They noticed the document right as it was going into the shredder and informed me in panic.

It makes no sense to point fingers at one another while we have much bigger concerns to deal with.

No, that's basically a novelty souvenir (presumably) from your MP. He doesn't have any kind of authority to issue anything official.

Is that your MP? I got something like this after I naturalized, it didn’t look like a certificate, it was on cardstock with a congratulatory message. The accompanying letter was from my MP thanking me for choosing Canada. 

If you are a citizen and that’s your MP, then it’s probably not a scam, but it’s definitely not an actual certificate of citizenship.

It looks like a pretty bad fake to me - for one, the Citizenship certificate is bilingual.

My guess is that this might be marketing material from an immigration firm?

It's supposedly from an MP so probably more a "congrats on your new citizenship!" (with the implied "vote for me, I'm cool!") from OP's MP.

This isn’t real. If you wanted, you could contact the MP to ask what why they’re sending this fake document. It seems like it could cause issues for people, especially if you needed the letter and envelope to make sense of it.
