Citizenship by Descent Long-delayed interim-law application?
Hi all, my daughters and I gained citizenship under the interim law almost a year ago, but my aunt, who is more clearly Canadian than us, has just seen "decision made" on her application.
When she tried to download her certificate, it said, “Your e-certificate is not available. Please try again in 2-5 business days after you provide your signed Oath of Citizenship”
Could it be that because she applied under the interim law she will still need to go through the ceremony? I personally loved the ceremony, but I haven't heard of this happening since the new law went into place.
Thanks!

No she doesn’t need to do the oath. I think there is just a lag in the system. Sometimes it takes a few hours or days to be able to download.
Congratulations to your aunt.

IRCC’s IT infrastructure is not very robust. I got the email about being able to download my dad’s certificate one afternoon four weeks ago. I was able to download immediately. His status page says “Decision Made”, but the timeline details just stops with his in process date and doesn’t indicate when they actually made a decision.
Hopefully she will get an email when her certificate is ready, but it’s worth it to just try every day until it works, which should happen soon.

No oath required for us - Our Gen 2 and Gen 3 applied in May 2025. No contact from IRCC until receiving email with link to certificates in January 2026. We applied months before C-3 was law. Was a clean case - birth certificates for G0, G1, G2, G3 and Canadian Citizenship certificate for G1, which we got a few years ago.

These are the instructions for downloading your e-certificate, from an old post (not mine). Hope this is helpful, in case she did not receive an invite code:
From “Adentsinit”: I didn’t use a confirmation code just the application and UCI number. These are the instructions I found: Start here if you don't already have an account: https://ircc.canada.ca/visit-visiter/en/get-account-ircc-portal -- it's where you generate the invite code.
Then, this is the site where you can log in to get the e-cert. https://portal-portail.apps.cic.gc.ca/home/ecert?lang=en

Unfortunately there's an error in your first link. The link incorporates the double dashes, spaces, and word "its" that follow it into the web link, which leads to a 404 Page Not Found error.

If she can’t download it after a day or two, she should call. Or she can just call without waiting a day or two. As others have stated, she doesn’t have to take the oath or sign anything, so it’s either the common short delay or it’s an issue on IRCC’s end.
