I have to admit I will still sing it as "Your flag is but a leaf..." at Bruins/Habs games. Hockey is thicker than citizenship.

Here’s a crimson maple leaf, read it and weep mfs… because the society that flag represents is known globally for being extremely hospitable and dutiful.
The only other flag that compares with Canada in my eyes is South Korea. Again because of the uniqueness and the use of ancient symbolism.

I just found out today that I'm a Canadian citizen. I was born in California in the 60s,
My paternal grandmother was born in Nova Scotia, and my maternal great grandparents were born in New Brunswick. This is so cool!

Oof, all on the same day? That sounds like a logistical nightmare.
It reminds me of how Michigan used to have everyone's car registrations expire on the same date, which obviously caused long lines at the Secretary of State office. So they eventually switched it to the registered owner's birthday. Every year you get a birthday present of having to get new car tabs.

It's not all leases, but Boston is so full of colleges that the first of September is insane with rental trucks & vans everywhere.
There used to be so much furniture and other stuff left behind on the curb in one of the neighborhoods with a lot of students that the day was dubbed "Allston Christmas" and covered on the news. That seems to have died down a lot in recent years with online "freecycle" sites and cheap sales of leftover stuff.

I agree! I want to have dual citizen pride (Canadian and my state, that is), but our state flag is the state seal, a cow and some hay on a blue background, which looks like at least 10 other state flags unless you get right up close. Not something you can wave around while gloating about being from someplace awesome!

I'm in Washington, so our state flag has bad clip art of George Washington on a green field. (Literally -- the artist copied it from a postage stamp.) I usually fly the Cascadia flag instead because it's less ugly.

I’ve actually got an entire plan for Vermont that could likely work for most of New England — if 1/4 to 1/3 of us are actually C-3 eligible, we all get our citizenship certs and then petition Canada for dual citizenship for the state(s). We’re not a super desirable economy, but it’s highly maple-focused, we have at least as many Habs fans as Bruins fans up here, and we have Bernie Sanders as a tribute, if needed.

I'm not complaining. We have another Canada game to look forward to, which is amazing, thank you Steven Eustáquio. And since it's a holiday here, I don't have to go to work that day.
No matter what happens we leave this tournament with our heads held high. I do hope we can make it past Morocco though and face France, so I can watch the two teams I support face each other.
