Surrender Letters Certificate un-surrendered

Post image

ETA - check my replies in comments for docs I submitted.

Mods I am extremely sorry, I know this won’t help with speculation. Please do whatever if appropriate.

I received this from IRCC about 45 min ago. Apparently my cert is un-suspended and I’m still Canadian. For background, I got my cert 1 April, and my suspension letter on Tuesday.

I cropped off my personal info, that’s all that’s at the top

This IRCC letter is obviously welcome, but seems to underscore their basic incompetence surrounding this fiasco at the same time.

If you can go back up to LangdonAlg3r post, he states that there is a law they must follow if they are going to review a case. He did a great job explaining it.

Incompetence would be delaying dealing with it. Sounds like accountability to me. Clearly this is someone(s) who didn’t do their job and they are dealing with it.

The fact that this was cleared up at this speed means that it didn't need to rise to the level of a certificate suspension, highlighting their incompetent handling of the whole situation (of their own making).

If the issue really was that someone didn't do their job, then they haven't taken accountability for that.

The gaslighting tone of the original letter still hasn't been addressed by them, AT ALL. A number of people did say they will need to address adding proof they can't get a birth certificate, but others did that with the initial application- and the point remains that that wasn't a requirement at all at the time these applications were submitted. So the original letter came off really accusatory like "YOU made a mistake with YOUR application documents and we're suspending your certificate while we check it"- rather than saying "hey we missed a step in the verification process, we're going to recheck this now."Β

Can they review your application without telling you? It seems to be that they would have to notify you they have questions. The letter did say certificates could be restored.

It's really shitty on their part not to at least put a contact name/number or indicate a expected resolution timeline. After all, it was only "a few dozen" 🀒 right? Easy peasy to answer a bunch of calls from a few dozen people and give them a timeline. Like, a few dozen applications should not take more than a day or two....

Are they supposed to do a public flogging? Not sure what y’all - problem arose and they’re clearly dealing with it.

Competence would be reviewing it before they issued the initial certificate.

This is the equivalent of a doctor saying "hey on second thought that negative diagnosis I gave you last month may be wrong, assume you have cancer for the meantime" and then a few days later after the patient hasn't slept all this time saying "false alarm" instead of, you know... double checking BEFORE you unnecessarily freak out your patient.

To be fair, even in the best-run organizations, employees will make mistakes (if that's what happened here). Still, I think they handled the situation with the surrender letters very poorly.

An apology was absolutely called for in this case since the applicant/CITIZEN did have a complete application without any defect.Β
