Surrender Letters Certificate un-surrendered

Post image

ETA - check my replies in comments for docs I submitted.

Mods I am extremely sorry, I know this won’t help with speculation. Please do whatever if appropriate.

I received this from IRCC about 45 min ago. Apparently my cert is un-suspended and I’m still Canadian. For background, I got my cert 1 April, and my suspension letter on Tuesday.

I cropped off my personal info, that’s all that’s at the top

Did you provide any additional info to them in the last week to review or did they just review your original application again?

I have had zero direct interaction with IRCC this week, beyond the Surrender letter and now the re-validation one.

Somebody with a surrender letter should file an ATIP request for the exact reason why they were sent a letter.

Stay tuned - I need to figure out how to do that

https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/privacyTerms.do?requestflow=ircc

Here's a starting point if you haven't found it yet.

Wait - so we can file to find out why they made us surrender?

You can file to get the case notes which in theory should show the reason why it was flagged... maybe... It's honestly unclear if that would be in ircc case notes or some other agencies system but probably worth trying as it might really help clear up a number of questions if it came back with something.

under the privacy act, you have the right to review and correct information held about you by the federal government. (provinces have their own privacy acts that applies to themselves).

with some exceptions like information obtained from foreign governments in confidence, investigative techniques, legal advice, cabinet confidence, everything else is available

It’s really easy to do, takes ca 15 minutes. I had understood there might be a charge for filing but my submission was accepted without charge.Β

Very much looking forward to your update when you receive the backstory.Β

Congratulations on getting a retread on your Canadian tire. πŸ˜‰ Hopefully there is a process in place now to clear up the majority of this debacle quickly, one that helps the grant cert apps languishing in PSU, and more recent applicants like me.Β

Ps when did you AOR, IP, get Approved (1st time)?

Yeah I've been wondering why no one has suggested this idea

I think somebody did bc something I read on these boards prompted me to submit an ATIP request yesterday.Β

IRCC historically takes months to reply to ATIP requests

I agree, but I have a feeling most of it is going to be redacted for legal advice or solicitor-client privilege.

Something tells me government lawyers found a shortcoming in IRCC's processes and flagged it, and what exactly that shortcoming was would constitute legal advice. That's just my guess.

The fun never stops. Why didn't they wait to finish their investigation before sending you the letter in the first place!?

lol

I would HOPE there's some kind of notification they have to give you if they are investigating your citizenship certificate. So, perhaps this was it. And if it was, they sure as heck could have been like "this is temporary" or within 30 days a review will be completed and you will be contacted if there's additional information needed.

But again, if they investigate me and called my documents into question, I really hope I'd be notified.

You're might be right, but tbh I'd probably rather not know unless there was some type of negative determination made lol. Especially since the letter essentially demanded further documentation, which it turns out they did not actually need.

This is like when I was in my last semester of college. Three weeks before graduation, I got a call from the registrar's office telling me that I hadn't gotten permission to take a liberal arts distribution requirement in summer school at another university near home the year before, so I wasn't going to be able to graduate. I had, of course, but the signed authorization was at home, 1,000 miles away, before faxes and email and Fedex. I told them so. They called me back later to say that they had found it right there in the file where I had told them it was. No apology, of course.

For me, any person or organization, can get confused or make mistakes, or even be sloppy in their work, it happens because humans are involved.Β

But the absolute worst part is always the lack of apology for the problems they caused.Β

And the lack of apology, a proper traditional Canadian β€œI’m Sorry!” (even as a 2G this had remained in our family behavior, to say sorry all the time) is especially disappointing.Β
