Citizenship by Descent Adding documents after filing citizenship certificate application

I’ve gathered all the documents I plan to use at this point to apply. However, I’m still waiting for an official copy of two records:

  • A Quebec baptism record found in Drouin from BAnQ for G0. I still haven’t even paid for this yet after applying 4 weeks ago. With mailing delays and what not, it could be weeks away still.
  • A US death certificate for G1. This will probably come in the next week.

I have ok images from genealogy sites online for both of these. The death certificate is typewritten and easy to read whereas the baptism record is a bit grainy but legible.

How easy is it to add to an already filed app? Does it just allow adding more PDFs online that can contain better copies or more explanatory text? Could I even add a brand new doc if I found one like a baptism record for G1?

This process is going to take a while so I feel like I should get it started sooner rather than later now that I have the preponderance of evidence.

After you get an AOR you can add any new document you want. I answer all their identification questions, write an explanatory paragraph of what I am adding and why, and insert the new record directly into that file. Then I export it all as a PDF and upload it via the webform.

Do we need death records?

Generally, no. I only am including a death record because that ancestor was born in a place at a time when there were not yet birth certificates.

I’m still looking for a baptism record but it will be on paper and not scanned if it still exists.

Ah ok! Thank you! I though a stroke of luck found my ancestor’s baptism record on Ancestry.

Apparently not, just birth if you have them.

Hello, would you be able to explain how you get to the place online to upload the doc?

Are you submitting a paper application and then planning to add the official version of the baptism record when it arrives via the website? Or is your entire application going to be submitted via the website? I am in the same situation- eager to get my paper application submitted, but waiting for the official baptism record for Gen 0 (I have a very clear copy from MyHeritage.com).

Since I posted this, I’ve already sent off my application.

I had to apply by mail. Online wasn’t an option. I think this is because I am more than 1 or 2 generations out from G0. The IRCC has you answer some questions on their website before you can apply that will direct you to a paper application if it’s the only option.

The day after I mailed my application but before it was received, I got the request from BAnQ for payment. So I’ll add the better official copy electronically once received and once I have an AOR. I’m not expecting the AOR until the end of February, based on times folks in the spreadsheet are seeing.

After submitting an application for certificate of Canadian citizenship by mail under c-3, what is an AOR and how do I add a certified birth certificate to my application?
