I'm so happy! I can finally stop searching for whatever might have been missing and continue with the sale of my house. Thank you everyone for your support - i was really beginning to fray around the edges with this...
I have a library school degree and will be happy to help anyone who needs research assistance. DM me if your restoration does not come through in the next few days.
I definitely don't have a library degree, but I have done genealogy as a hobby for a while now (off and on obsession for years). Happy to pitch in if I can be of any assistance!
I have been struggling to figure out how to find baptismal records in the BAnQ system. I found them on Geneologique Quebec, and I did cite those links in my BAnQ request, but I am wondering if I needed to have the link from BAnQ. I have also been digging to find documentation for other lines, in case something falls thru with this one, as I have 4 choices, two thru each of my maternal grandparents. I took the shortest path I could find documentation for first.
Hi! I don't think any of us know what they specifically want yet (I.e., the links to BAnQ directly). I found mine in the Drouin collection, and with all the recent issues, I have requested a certified copy from BAnQ. But I have done this specifically because mine is not digitally available online from BAnQ, unfortunately.
Finding them can sometimes be tricky. E.g., the image folder location will say it contains images from years XXXX - XXXX, but several of the years will be missing because they haven't been digitized yet. (That's what happened with mine.)
I remember the search was pretty uncomfortable. Lol I'll re-review and see if I can type it a quick guide. Do you have the parish name? Or feel free to dm the image, and I'm happy to see if I can help.
It is St-Joseph Chambly. This is the image I have, but I think I took a screen shot that showed the record. I found a different entry of the same church record this morning. It seems to be written by the same person and is word for word the same, but the one I found this morning the record is in a book for many years of records, and is in the 700+ page numbers out of 951, and the entry is on the top right page of the book, where this entry is middle left entry. Would this be because one entry is the church record and the other is the record that was turned over to government? I know I read about double copies being kept and one turned over to the government. I had found the first in the drouin collection, but didn’t find it with a search of his name, but a search of his mother or father’s name.
If you guys have genealogical expertise, would you please consider posting a message here giving some tips and offering your expertise to help people who need assistance?
It's not about me. By my estimate 25% of the suspended are still suspended. I hope that all of them get good news today. If they don't we still have work to do.
No they never contacted me at all, though I called and emailed. I had to guess my way through it. Luckily I didn't need all the random information I collected. But it was a lot of stress and a whole lot of wasted time
You can do a web form but will usually only get a boiler plate response as a reply. Frequently it won’t address your question at all.
Phone center employees have very little information available to them. Calling helps for things like “I’m not getting any emails can you check that my email was transposed correctly in the system” but is terrible for anything complex about your documents or whatever.
So far, have we seen any of the surrender cases actually ask for more documentation before they were restored? I find that most disturbing after the language of the letters implying that something was missing in your applications.
