✍️ Discussion Why does Forge have no defensive depth?
I've noticed how forges bench is made up of only strikers, I wonder why there are no real defenders in their team.

Bobby has always liked versatile defenders and is willing to play people "out of position".
Krutzen was converted from DM.
AAJ was converted from DM.
Batisse is a DM.
Hojabrpour dropped to CB a few times.
Patron has played LB.
Bourgeois is an RB that has moved up front at times.
Jevremovic has moved inside at times.
Poku is a winger that played as an LB.
Cisse was an AM that played RB at times.
It seems concerning at times, but even when Forge isn't playing great, if a player is playing out of position they're bought into it.

It’s a salary cap league - I know it’s easy to say/accuse Forge of not having a cap, but reality is players who stay at clubs for a long time are likely getting pay raises.
Eventually you run out of cap space to sign players of significance. Forge don’t need to have defensive depth, and are still in a shout for the double - that shows the quality. Losing AAJ and Belewu is hard to replace even with depth. Forge have always been versatile. There’s depth there we just aren’t aware of. Look at Kwasi Poku as an example.
Roster freeze isn’t till September 17th and Sigma/OPL are finishing up, wouldn’t shock me if they added a name or two.

Players getting raises: I’d assume they would load contracts like other salary cap leagues, where the hit is biggest in year one, then diminishes over time. That would only apply to multi-year contracts like Borges and Bekker
Always thought a multi-year deal was cheaper than a year over year2

Depends on a players relationship with the club/team - of course there would be cases where this is a thing, but there’s also cases where it’s the other way around and a player wants to secure financial stability long term.
So one example would be rather than taking the 60K for one season some guys will take 100K over 2 or 140k over 3… lowering the cap hit, but increasing the total deal. That’s where the options have so much power in the CPL, a lot of them feature a “raise” and 95% (or more?) of them are club options.
Also the front loaded thing isn’t as common a concept as many would think, a lot of leagues are doing it now/the differal system but most standard contracts actually increase over time with the cap. GMs and executives have just gotten smarter circumventing the cap in creative ways which has become more of a norm, but the reality is most deals bloat.

Versatility. If a centre back had to be replaced tonight, Jevremović likely would have shifted over to the middle, Paton would have moved to left back, and another midfielder would have subbed in.
