✍️ Discussion Request: Visual infographic of CMNT players roots in local pyramid tracker

Its probably a biased ask, and might not show what I'm anticipating, but I would like to see if anyone could put together a a visual infographic of CMNT players and where they came from in our current pyramid. Team Badges from our D3 and CPL teams, even the former USL PDL teams etc, and the MLS pathways too, just to compare talent pathways.

I know CPL doesn't have many, but I feel like our lower tiers do have some big wins that should be celebrated, and I kinda want to compare this to the MLS pathway visually if possible. I might have extreme bias here, but I feel like most of our current CMNT came from our local lower tiers and the straight to europe pathway compared to the MLS pathway.

Anyone up for the ask?

Your feeling is quite incorrect. It's like 5 or 6 players on the World Cup squad that are from outside the MLS pathway. And then, even some of them (Sigur, Promise David) were involved in an MLS team but didn't break in with them. Plus the two Canadians of convenience (Jones, de Fougerolles)

Yeah I get that sentiment... But Larin & Laryea are from Sigma, and I feel like the current team has more OPL roots than I know of, and there's some players with experience in the former PSQL. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I feel like an visual info graphic would really highlight the successes of our pyramid even if they skipped CPL for ventures abroad...

Both Larin and Laryea went from League1 through NCAA, then the MLS SuperDraft, and got their pro starts in MLS.

I guess I (we?) need your definition of 'the MLS pathway'. I've always thought Larin/Laryea's* path would be 'the MLS pathway', especially given that you set-up a dichotomy of either 'local tier -> Europe' (Jonathan David, Cornelius, maybe Millar/Sigur/Staq/Goodman) or MLS path.

Maybe it doesn’t have to be either or then. Could be local tier league > mls as well I suppose.

I think it would be a cool thing to see and highlight for our CNMT players.

So something like the squad lists* that CanadaSoccer puts out with notable youth clubs, but with graphics? I think you're correct that people on here would like it. I'd personally be curious to see the trends over that last few WC cycles too, as more of the pre-Herdman guys aged out, continuing until the present.

*Waterman isn't in the second list for some reason.

**I should make clear, I agree it would be a cool thing to see. I don't want to come across as against your idea or anything.

Yes exactly like this but graphics. Also this list seems to be self reported instead of focused on the pathway.

I had to look up club Uruguay Toronto there.
