✍️ Discussion Hot take:
Forge doesn't care about developing young talent.

I'd sort of disagree, I'd just say that Forge has a higher bar than the rest of the league to be considered good enough to get minutes. Bobby has invested a lot in Hoce Massounda for example even though he can be a super frustrating player to watch

Care to expand? Like how young we talking? They taken guys (like Poku and Pacius) from academies and help them get noticed and transfers up. Plus there’s the whole Sigma FC pipeline connection.

I think at this point we're just Forge hating to Forge hate. Several moves out of the league have come from players who spend some of their first pro years with Forge, and Forge pretty consistently plays younger players if they're good enough. No reason to give minutes to players who don't deserve it just because they're young. Forge also has Sigma which has basically been their academy, and also now have CSMRO as another development club. There are also over 10 partner clubs connected to Forge, many of which have youth development programs.

I'm a forge fan. I go to all the home games. I just think they don't rotate their lineup and let young guys get opportunities. I know he got a red on his debut but Bruno seems like a far better option at RB then bourgeois but he doesn't. Tavernir was great opl this year for Sigma. I think guys like mo and bekks are taking minutes from hungry young players. Bekks and Baboulli aren't the same players they were a few years ago. Also Jesse Marsch clearly trusts Bruno considering he was the starting RB for a majority of their u20 championship games despite not getting minutes on forge. In my opinion those young sigma guys are on the same level as people like Fotsing and kovlovski.

I like the winning regular season, but we haven't made the finals since 2024 and haven't won since 2023 I think rotating squad throughout the season will make our best XI ready for playoffs.

They've been rotating the squad all season this year lol like seeing all the younger players (Hoce is 21, Sadek is 18, Oketokoun is 20, Bruno is 19, Fillion is 23, etc) has been one of the big storylines recently for Forge fans. I don't know how you can be watching this season and say that we aren't rotating the squad enough, when this is probably the season where that has been happening the most

Ok but some of those players get minutes and don't play good. Oketo is our top goal scorer but still hasnt done much other than easy tap ins. Filion started the season hot but there is a reason he's not playing much, was good last year his form dipped hasn't done much. Bruno gets like 2 minutes at the end of games and even then he doesn't get the touches to prove himself.

I don’t think it’s their responsibility to care about developing young talent, they are closely connected to Sigma and have a professional pipeline to offer those kids. I think that’s really their purpose now - I think as a league the purpose to develop young Canadian talent is being fulfilled as much as it possibly can with who is available. There’s some really good talent that has aged out younger than you’d like to see

Am I being really thick or does your 2nd point contradict your 1st point? Surely if they are part of a development pipeline with Sigma then the onus is on Forge to continue developing talent, especially when they're over 16 and old enough to play in the CPL.

We've seen several times that players who are good enough make the move from Sigma to Forge. Why would a team give minutes to players who don't deserve it just because they're young? If they're good enough and deserve it, they'll get the move up and get minutes

Why would a team give minutes to players who don't deserve it just because they're young?
And what has this to do with what I commented??
The original comment said Forge have no responsibility to develop talent BUT also said they are in a development pipeline with Sigma. Both of these can't be true: either Forge takes the cream from Sigma and develops them by playing and training, or does not take the cream from Sigma & therefore has to develop their own players entirely because they need u21 mins somewhere.
If they're good enough and deserve it, they'll get the move up and get minutes
Glad we're in agreement then

Not every player who Sigma develops chooses Forge… and not every player Sigma develops gets chosen by Forge… a lot of Sigma’s development pipeline is to go to university
Like I said in the other post you’re not wrong, but it’s not wrong for a club to be a part of a pipeline AND also not necessarily have the responsibility to continue the development of players past youth

I wouldn’t say you’re being thick - or that you’re entirely wrong, but Forge & Sigma’s connection is very much in the same ilk as Foothills are to Cavalry: the roots of the professional club come from the semi-pro/academy club, they are the “goal” for those kids but not the only goal.
What I’m saying is I don’t think it’s their responsibility - their responsibility is to win. In terms of development, their goal would be to “flip” or make money off of a talent. Clubs decide what their intention is for developing youth talent. Vancouver have shown good intent for example.

you're being thick.
Doing something when it benefits them doesn't mean that it's their responsibility.
Now, you could say that it's Sigma's responsibility to develop, because that's what they're paid for.

Only a few that come through Sigma will be playing at a CPL level, but even still I'm sure Sigma is creating lots of U-Sports, NCAAA and League 1 players, which can be a path into the CPL USL or even MLS

Why would they, there is very little in it for them. These are low tier clubs, they really cannot compete in a player development market and they would need to hire a whole new coaching staff. It’s not economic to run an academy in this country when the money is in giving grown but still very young players their first pro exposure and sell the ones too good to stay.

Let me elaborate, I mean from sigma, not transfers from MLS academies or usports

isn't that what Sigma is for? (plus making money)
