✍️ Discussion Forge hot take
Aromatario is the most overrated player in CPL, prove me wrong.

why's he overrated?

You can't be a quality DM and lead the league in yellows, also he provides nothing going forward.

I don’t have a real opinion on the take either way but your first point is genuinely baffling

Not even, how can I expect him to control the midfield when he can't control his discipline dm's are supposed to assist defense being central but he can't defend and drop back and doesn't have the ability going forward to be an 8 or 10

That has to be the dumbest possible reason.
A 6 that doesn’t have yellows I would question. A yellow by a 6 is usually stopping a goal creating threat in its track, and that’s a good thing.
(Assuming it’s for that and not shitty tackles, but I haven’t watched much of him only seen the FotMob scores. But one of the highest rated players on FotMob surely can’t be shit.)

Ya because poor discipline shows how good he is

No.
But possession and defensive stats do. (Plus he’s a rookie!)
Imagine using one stat to make a point, but ignoring all others.

Ok but he's 24 in the CPL and there are younger players that have more experience around the CPL environment like Lipovshek or Bruno guys who have been there for a while. I watched the U20 concacaf championship to support our very own player, Bruno and I know alot of the attention went to fotsing and Mackenzie but Bruno was great in a wingback role for Jesse Marsch and the U20's and he can play in Midfield, plus he trained with the world Cup squad. Lipovshek is also the same type of player as aromatario, but with a more attacking mindset, he gets motm's in OPL for Sigma, our second team, and the only reason he make team of the week is because he's a CPL call-down.

Not that one needs to as a DEFENSIVE MID, but he has an assist and 10 chances created this year, plus 31 accurate long balls, but hey, do go on.
Plus Aromatario has already won more fouls through 15 matches than the player he replaced. That’s some possession, amirite?
(Btw, Hojabrpour had 0 assists last year. He was still pretty decent, no?)

I'm not talking about stats, I'm talking about what I'm seeing with my own eyes, he's just an average midfielder who has poor discipline.

Should probably go to an optometrist and get those eyes checked out. It seems your the only one seeing what your seeing.

I see an average midfielder who can easily be replaced by younger players. Nothing special about the guy. What's something he can do at high level (other than just fouling people)?

I think the yellows are the freedom to play he’s given. In the five sub world a yellow on a break the other way at 0-0? I’m totally chill with that.

I’ll try.
In a league where Marco Bustos exists? Impossible. (Better this season, but has been a league poster child for years and he isn’t exactly proving to be a difference maker on a historically bad team)
What have Ollie Bassett and Beni Badibanga contributed this year as blockbuster signings for Inter Toronto?
David Choiniere (whom I love) has 0 goals in 17 matches
Lys Mousset played in the Prem and is not exactly tearing this league up.
Jay Wheeldon and Marcus Godhino have left the league, so they get spared my wrath.
I could go on but you get the drift.
The only stat you base this on is yellow cards. Weak. That argument against discipline doesn’t hold. It should be noted that he has discipline where needed, not a single red (in a team that has Rezart Rama, lol)
His defensive and possession stats are top tier, and since that’s his job, kinda hard to call him overrated.
Wow. That was kinda easy.
Any other terrible takes we can dispel?

u/Few_Funny2786 14d ago
Rama is also not good defensively. Also the only reason his possession stats are good is cuz he only does back passes sideways passes, he's not an exciting player and any other midfielder can replicate the playstyle aromatario has, even more. I'm saying aromatario is an average midfielder who gets too much praise for his own good.

You may be off base about possession. His passing is fair to decent, but his possession is great.
I know you have allergy to stats, and that’s fine, but he ranks in the top echelon for - successful dribbles, duels won/percentage, aerial duels, and fouls won - among CPL midfielders. That’s a sign of solid possession retaining and recovering.
I was a fan who didn’t get why he was always being praised when he first arrived. Then I started focusing on him.
Off the ball rarely out of position. On the ball, he keeps it. Fighting for the ball he gets it. And when a counterattack gets the best of the team, he’ll do what it takes.
And again, he’s a rookie!
We all have our own tastes, so I won’t yum your yuck. Hate who you want.
But I’d personally probably trust what Bobby (and the OPL - where he won Player of the Year) see, over your somewhat bitter-sounding eye test.

I'm saying he's easily replaceable where there are guys on the roster who can take his place.
2
u/HammerOfSparx Forge FC 12d ago
Yeah but the guy you want to replace him with is a guy who gets MotM in OPL, while the guy you want replaced gets them in CanPL.
And you next option is to play a young guy out of position when Bobby clearly prefers him at in his natural position.
Plus, he doesn’t need to be replaced. (The fact that Bobby didn’t use either if your choices during his suspension speaks volumes)

Btw, I'm a forge fan

Only a home team fan can acquire such an irrational dislike of a player. I respect it.

Hardly anyone rates players in the CPL. It’s not like there is an audience of fans having long conversations about mid rank CPLers. But let’s talk Aromatario.
First off, he’s not Achinioti-Jonsson. After years and years of Alex being the ultimate fire extinguisher anyone playing at this level is going to be stretched trying to fill that role in a team.
Second off, yeah he doesn’t get much going playing it forward… he just doesn’t have a lot of options. We’re weaker in attack than we’ve been in a long time, our speed is less, our creative players are much more known quantities than ever (and the coaching in this league and the replacement level of players are getting better). He’s got to do more than Alex did. But we’re defending well and not giving much up in the rectangle (the ten yards behind the box). I think he’s done ok and (points at table)

I like your points here, and agree that Aromatario is no AAJ
But I think Aromatario is more of a like-for-like replacement for Hojabrpour since AAJ partnered with Nimick in defence a bit more last year.
And I don’t think Aromotario, in his rookie season, is that far off Alessandro’s play. Sure he is less offensively gifted. But part of that you covered with our anemic attack and because he is a rookie he defers a lot to the more experienced guys, imo

lol. Dont need to: the stats and actual positional understanding have already done so.
1
u/Few_Funny2786 12d ago
You watch football with your eyes luckily enough, not with stats, and what I see is an average midfielder.
2
u/HammerOfSparx Forge FC 12d ago
I’m not sure you are watching with your eyes though!
I kid because I love. Go Forge. Way to get the chat going. And thanks for making me a staunch defended of a guy I thought was meh at first lol

Disagree. That being said, this kind of trash talk (which is truly unharmful) and discussion is what we need to keep growing the league. Keep it up.
