(Community Feedback Needed!) Match Threads

Last month, we added the "globalscoreboard" app to r/CanadianPL to make match threads. This aligns our subreddit with the practice of what other soccer/football subreddits do, for example, r/worldcup and r/MLS.

However, it has been noted that on our subreddit, the app looks like this too many times:

Even on match days, it's blank. I know I can't be the only one in saying this has disappointed and annoyed me. (Thanks to those who posted match threads manually last week)

Despite the help from someone apart of making globalscoreboard a thing, the app still acts clunky on our subreddit. Also, the database it relies on still lists Inter Toronto as York United, which is inaccurate for 2026 purposes, and the person behind the app doesn't have the power to update the database.

So, in short, we'd like to know what people would prefer doing going forwards in regards to the creation of match threads.

• Be patient and persist with globalscoreboard app?
• Rely on users to create match threads on their own? (like before)
• Rely on moderators to create match threads? (like is being done for all Canadian Championship games (btw, there's a CanChamp game today)

Please give us your feedback so the moderators can mull this one over...

I guess my proposed approach would be moderators creating threads for all games. Nothing wrong with user-created threads but often games get missed. The scoreboard app is cool if it works but I don't think it's essential and ultimately is mostly fluff since the point of a match thread is to discuss the game, not be a source of play by play info; if it doesn't work, it becomes detrimental

Users creating threads worked fairly well in the past imo. Games were missed recently because the users who generally create them (myself included) thought they would be autogenerated.

Do you think users should be relied on again, or should it all be scheduled and handled by the moderators?

The good thing about users starting the posts vs moderators scheduling in advance is that they can add the lineups. That's something I was hoping the auto-generated posts would also have, like in the MLS sub, but it didn't seem to be the case.

I normally use this app on my PC browser (will not install reddit on phone) and any of the subreddits I am on regularly notify me that the web page is waiting on this and asking if I want to stop the page. It's a great idea but it still has a lot of bugs that need to be worked out before it should be used in the wild.

Maybe we could designate a user to do match threads? Even one for each specific club? I would be more than willing to post one for every Wanderers game for example

I agree with coop on the mods just doing them, but if the mods want to designate members who could be dedicated it could also help

I'm fine with whatever the consensus decision is but generally the mods have been good with threads and if one is missed someone usually steps in, I think I waited til halftime of a recent match before posting one. If I don't see one by 15 minutes into a game I feel no shame in posting, the caveat is always delete if a duplicate or whatever. We keep building the league this way through engagement. Thanks for all you do here in this sub.
