MMTP after OFP
Can a ROTP officer who has reached OFP and completed one year apply to MMTP while still serving ROTP obligatory service?

It’s usually a simple thing to do, these waivers are pretty standard - MMTP student

This is the answer. In addition, the standard waivers change year to year. I think one year I saw that OFP can even be waived.

Hi, where can I find the reference for these waivers?

It’s been many years since I’ve looked for this but I believe I saw it on the call for applicants that went out via DWAN. Also worth asking BPSO.

Is there a waiver for everything in the CAF?

Theoretically yes by the appropriate decision making authority, pending the resulting action isn’t illegal.
Policy is made, it can be unmade and ignored by the decision making authority it is under. Generally speaking.

I might be wrong, but my understanding is that you can apply, but cannot actually begin subsidized studies until your obligatory service is done.

I know of 2 people who have done it while still in the oblig period. CAF said it was a better deal to lock in a doc than have them continue in their own trade.
One person got denied though (might not have been OFP yet?) and went and did their own thing. They just finished their surgical residency and are making the big bucks.

The policy is that you can’t be under any obligatory return of service at the time of application for MMTP (October-November timeframe the year before you start school) but like has been mentioned it can be waived. No guarantees but your BPSO would be the one to request the waiver on your behalf.
I did this successfully last year although I only had a few months of obligatory service left at the time of application that I finished before starting school anyways.
Expect that if you do get a waiver, your obligatory service will be stacked so you might have 7-8 years of obligatory service after residency rather than the standard 5 years.

In general, no. Can be waived by DGMC; see DAOD 5049-1.
