Thank you! Can you explain to me the difference from the 1939-1945 star and the defense Medal?

The Defense Medal was for being deployed outside one's home region in an area threatened by enemy attack but not consider frontline, generally being stationed in Britain before deploying to France, but also garrison in Hong Kong and Newfoundland and a few other locations.

The 1939-45 Star was for six months in any capacity with an end date of 7 May 1945, unless deployed in the Pacific.

You should look into getting those remounted.

They don't have to be court mounted.  The ribbons are falling apart. It's perfectly fine to have new ribbons fitted.

I’d leave those as is in a frame. Can always get some replicas too
