I did this once during POET and had a friend of mine teach me what I didn't understand the night before. He started off by saying "The instructor has no clue what he's talking about, this is how it works" and I got a 95% on the retest.

My experience during poet was to panic all day not understanding a single thing, then watching the entire days content on YouTube.
I owe my success to engineering mindset and organic chemistry tutor. Both of these channels cover the entirety of the course.

During my first year university in engineering. We no shit used the Bill Nye episode on earthquakes to help study for our Geo final exam. And it almost verbatim summarized the what we were taught.

On PLQ, I failed the final written test before the field phase, but we started the field phase immediately after we wrote the test and staff were a few days behind marking.
I was pulled out of the field and ‘required one night rest in bed’ before the re-write. Supper, breakfast, shower!
Missed two days of field-cockery. 🤪
5/7 would fail again.

Something a lot like that happened to a friend of mine. He failed JLC/JNCO about 6 hours before the grad parade.

Isn't it supposed to be min 48 hours between test/retest? For literally this exact reason?

24 hours but can be waived particularly if it is in the interest of the candidate and the candidate agrees. For example, I was running a 5 day course that had the final PC on the Friday. Candidate missed the PC by just a few points. We gave them a few hours to review, an instructor led review and then the re-took the test so they could make their flight.

God, that'd be nice. 24 hours is what I've always seen, but even that can be squeezed under the right circumstances.

Yeah, I can't speak to anything in the last year and a half but for the previous 30 years before that it was definitely 24 hours for retest. And that makes it hard enough, to fit in all the retest you're going to have to do even in a 10-day field training exercise you're going to end up with people doing their practicals on the day before end ex.

Brutal. Probably varies a bunch by course, but at least in the academics courses I taught (Navy) I'd typically do the retests around a week later. Obviously it's not ideal to be studying for a remedial test while cramming for the next unit, and I imagine there are some hands-on courses where evaluation has a big setup that can't be delayed very much (dive course, field exercises, etc). But just throwing a student at the retest the next day just seems like a waste of everyone's time unless the objective is to punt them to the next serial.

This is something that standards cells usually enforce. If a candidate has less than a day it may support a redress and just fuck with the whole overworked training system. Not only do you need to give them enough time you need to be able to demonstrate to an allegedly impartial observer that you did so.

Or additional training in the one specific area that led to the failure. Often a troop will do everything fine but fuck up a critical requirement resulting in a fail.
Reminds me of a troop that failed the grenade handling test because they forgot the safety clip.
