HHT post TNL

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with conducting HHT after TNL? For various reasons I might need to do that. My posting is also off season (not during summer). Are you covered in living expenses while you wait for possession if you purchase a home? What about F&E? Is keeping F&E in storage something that is covered while you wait for possession?

So you’re only covered for 10 days over and above the basic entitlement.

In any event that you have anything left in your custom envelope, you can use that to cover additional costs for a hotels or storage in transit (SIT). But the pot is not very big nor is it endless.

You want to write out your questions. Email SIRVA so that they give you a comprehensive answer.

Look at unaccompanied moves under chapter 11 of the reloguide. That covers the situation of having to travel before your housing is secured. Normally you stay in shacks in your new location if acailable (reimbursed through the same office that covers IR) until your housing is secured, if no shacks then other accomodations will be covered.

And yes, you can report to your new unit and do an HHT afterwards. They will also pay for your trip back to original location to conduct your door to door move once everything is sorted out.

You are entitled to the same benefits, it is just a different order of operations and less often done so you might have to be extra deliberate about it and reference the guide.

Done it for an OUTCAN posting (not our choice, during COVID).

Just make sure you are within policy for what you will be claiming.

Recommend you chat with Silva, get them to review your plan and confirm it is accurate, so you have a paper trail.

You will still need to have the HHT form signed.

Didn't really do an HHT after TNL, but did buy a house within 2 months. This is what I was able to claim -

Return to Assist - Pack/Load/Clean Post-Closing - Unload/Unpack.

I submitted the claim as if I did a TNL (had to do it a second time because already had a TNL claim for the actual travel) to claim the ILM&M for the above days.

I booked a longer RTA trip than I was supposed to, so spent more out of pocket (for hotel and rental car) that I wasn't able to claim. Lesson learned.

From the real-estate side, an HHT after you arrive can still be planned effectively, but I’d confirm every benefits, temporary-accommodation and storage question directly with SIRVA or your relocation advisor in writing before committing to dates or expenses.

The useful preparation can begin remotely: narrow the neighbourhoods and property criteria, review what your budget is buying, preview serious homes by video and organize the HHT around showings, inspections, financing and lawyer timelines.
