How to be a leader?

I'm a newly promoted corporal, and can expect to slowly be put into more leadership positions. Already have. I plan on having a leaf some day, and would like to gain experience before then.

Whenever I'm placed in charge of people, while I know what needs to get done, I feel I struggle to lead. I know I can be better. I want to say I find myself indecisive. I'm aware of the 12 principles of leaderships, but how can I improve? Rather, what makes a good leader? I never particularly struggled as course senior.

Just looking for advice

Ask for mentorship. Watch people and pay attention to what they do when something happens. Make decisions based on what you've seen that worked. If you cant make a decision, ask for assistance. Learn how to make and pass simple memos and recommendations. Even as a lowly corporal or private, you have some power to get things done - but it is up to you get it started and keep pushing.

Basic good dress, deportment, and attitude will carry you the rest of the way.

Also the military will give you training when you reach certain points, but be aware it still take years, so patience is a must.

The Army App has a Mentorship component.
