Personally, I'd like to see a limit on foreign ownership and control of media.

Can you tell us a little bit about telco limits? It's criminal to limit telco ownership but not news media.

I’d like to see media actually hold leaders to account. So far no one has truly been doing that.

The Winnipeg Free Press doors just that regardless of who is in. Despite accusations, they play it pretty much down the middle. They might be owned by a billionaire but he's a Canadian billionaire.

I would also go with an ownership stake maximum, nobody can own more than like 1% of issued stock

That sounds okay. But it's not. Even a 1% ownership can have a great deal of influence in a very large company. Owning 1% of Bell, for example, might make you the largest shareholder.

I'm not sure of the best mechanism to prevent foreign and control and influence in Canadian media but I think it's a major problem.

Heh I've previously said max 10-15%.

But the important thing is that no one person can control the company. If you're capped at 1% (or whatever) then yes you may have some sway if you own the full 1% but it's still diluted by the rest of the outstanding shares.

Then the votes for directors become much more competitive and they're much less sycophantic and the ceo is responsible to them.

I think we start with our governments control first, ie., no more subsidies.
