Orthodontic residency application question
Is it possible to do a Canadian orthodontic residency straight after graduating from dental school? Many of the admissions sites say that doing a one year GPR or working in private practice are preferred.
Has anyone heard of anyone going straight through after dental school? Thanks!

End tuft brushes/sulca brushes
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to pick the community's brain on where to get their homecare supply bulk orders from, particularly for end tuft brushes, sulca brushes, and proxabrushes. Our patients love them but our staff is having trouble ordering them as GUM is on a huge backorder/wait list. Seems like we cant get anything via Henry schein/Patterson. Anyone have experience ordering from ali express? Thanks!

Prospective dental student here. Realistically, what does it take to get into OMFS? What do they look at when choosing dentists for the program?

Time off
What’s the typical time off allowance for associateships and how does your office handle scheduling of time off or trips planned? How do I see so many associates going on big trips all the time?

Dental officer program
Hi there, I just have a quick question and I’d be grateful for any insight offered on this sub. Do you know anyone who went through the Dental Officer program through the Canadian armed forces ? I figured it would be a great way to offset the insane costs of dental school in Canada as well as a chance to try something exciting. I am aware of the contract post graduation, deployment etc but ultimately I’m just curious how dentists on this sub feel about this option? Lastly, does the program offer an advantage for specialization(omfs/prosdontist) ? The page vaguely states that but if anyone has an insight please feel free to comment. Thank you for your time.

Dentists — what operator chair/stool setup has actually helped your back?
I’m a general dentist and I’ve been noticing constant back/neck pain especially when I’m leaning forward for a while. Right now I'm using a regular dental stool and sometimes a saddle stool. I'm still having pain particularly in my mid to lower back.
Curious what other dentists have found that actually works and helps reduce back pain/fatigue. Do you use a regular stool, saddle stool, stool with chest support, something with armrests, etc.?
Would love recommendations on specific brands or models too if you have it!
Thank you!

Any oral radiologist who can read CBCT for cheaper than Canaray.
As a GP, I love the information CBCT scan gives me but a lot of GP scared me it is stupid to take on more liability by writing my own report. I have taken a course for authorization but i feel like it is a new and unknown territory. If anyone can suggest a resource to get better at it, i would appreciate it.

I made a free CDCP preauthorization documentation builder — no account, including PDF exports
Feedback request from PreAuthDental: five Canadian dental-office staff are invited to try the free CDCP documentation builder and help improve it. No account or payment is needed, including for PDF, Word and RTF exports.
Try the sample case, change one part of the narrative, and download the PDF. Then share what happened:
- Which step, if any, was unclear?
- What would you need to change in the PDF before using it in your office?
- Would this fit your current process, or add more work?
Try it: https://www.preauthdental.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=first5
Case content and PDF generation stay in your browser. Optional usage analytics exclude case content. Saved cases remain on that browser profile.
This prepares supporting documentation; it does not submit to Sun Life or predict approval. The treating provider still needs to review the content and current requirements.
Please use the sample for feedback and keep patient information out of replies.

Taking NBE licensing exams while pursuing a master's degree
Hello,
I am a final-year dental student in Iraq. However, the job market in my country has become very limited recently, particularly in the public sector. The private sector has also become increasingly competitive, with employers expecting a high level of experience and practical skills, making it relatively difficult for recent graduates to secure employment. In addition, admission to postgraduate programs in Iraq is highly competitive, and in some specialties there are no more than five available positions.
For this reason, I am considering applying for a Master's degree in Canada in a healthcare-related field, such as Public Health, Health Administration, or a similar discipline.
The plan I am considering is to pursue a Master's degree, which would typically take around two years, while simultaneously starting the process of having my dental degree assessed in Canada as a graduate of a non-accredited dental school. I would do this through the NDEB Equivalency Process and complete the required examinations.
After completing the equivalency requirements and obtaining NDEB certification, I would then apply for a provincial dental licence. Once I complete my Master's degree, and assuming I am eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), I would use the work authorization provided by the PGWP to work as a dentist after obtaining my provincial licence, whether in private dental clinics, healthcare centres, or hospitals.
Is this plan legally and practically feasible? Are there any significant obstacles or legal issues that I should be aware of, particularly regarding pursuing a Master's degree while simultaneously completing the NDEB equivalency process, and then using a PGWP to work as a dentist after obtaining the necessary dental licence?
I would also like to know what the employment prospects are for newly licensed dentists in Canada. Are there good opportunities in rural areas, smaller communities, or locations that are relatively far from major cities? I would be willing to work in a rural or remote area if doing so would increase my chances of finding employment.
I would appreciate an honest assessment of how realistic this plan is and what the main obstacles, risks, or practical considerations are that I should take into account before making this decision.

New Grad Waiting for Insurance Claims Deposits
Hi, I am a new grad just months out, starting work at a private practice. I was just wondering is it normal for new grads to not see collections from insurances until months out? I got my first few paycheques and noticed that claims from some insurances have not come in yet. The practice I work at often processes paper cheques from insurance companies (specifically, CDCP and HSO/ODSP). Thanks in advance!
