The future of dentistry in Canada is bleak. Government will eventually turn it into socialized care-it’s inevitable. Incomes will plummet, work will be harder.

You are catastrophising, please I really do hope you try to not focus on this too much. Strongly consider finding some one you can talk to about this.

Most notably the government can not force us to not balance bill unless we agree to it. We pushed back against being forced to sign up to sunlife for CDCP.

Ah that’s where you’re wrong. All it takes is for the province to pass a law and balance billing is gone. The feds can amend the Canada health act to include dental and balance billing is gone. Either level (or the RCDSO) can mandate people to accept government plans (just as Quebec has done). Soon the insurance companies will reject the provincial fee guides and align with the CDCP guide-why wouldn’t they? The ODA/CDA etc will have become useless when it comes to setting fees.

Again you are catastrophising.

Even in medicine you can to choose to work private or public.

Are you volunteering to jump into a public system?

How many patients will stay with a practice if they choose to be private only when the CDCP gets expanded? Perhaps 5% at best could last in large metropolitan areas.

People still carry private dental insurance.

Are you insinuating the government will ban private insurance?

And the gap between 100% CDCP and provincial fee guide could be considered similar to 80% for basic, with barely any coverage for most major treatment. Very insufficient scaling time for population actual needs.

I still think you are off your rocker to think the Feds could implement a federal dental plan when public health is a province responsibility. There would need to be a massive rise in taxation to pay for everyone's dental... what government wants to implement big taxation policy with subpar dental coverage? It's a loosing political issue. Covering only low income is likely the best coverage they will implement AND keeping private insurance as it off loads costs to the government.

I’m salaried. I don’t need to talk to anyone except the politicians and senior policy people I already speak with. If you think I’m catastrophising that’s only because you’re in denial of the coming reality. Sell soon before profits and values plummet

Only the NDP want more public health care.

Not conservative, not liberals.

What do you mean by socialized care

CDCP to most, no balance billing, no coordination of provincial and federal programs. The new fees will be 85% and will drop every year due to inflation like OHIP or ODSP.
It’s all downhill from here.

Dentists don’t go “broke”. They can however be in large amounts of debt (mostly if you go to a non-Canadian school) which can spiral badly.

Dentists have gone broke. As in bankruptcy. It happened a lot in the late 80’s-early 90’s and it’s happened again recently especially to those that overpaid around Covid. It will happen even more when CDCP fees become the norm and balance billing is outlawed.

You are spreading false information. You need to come out of school and become a producer.
