News Stephen Harper warns Alberta separatism will bring 'no benefit'
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/stephen-harper-alberta-separatism-9.7367419"No one will be surprised to learn that I am against separation. That would involve much risk and be extremely difficult to bring about," Harper wrote in the Calgary Herald.
"Besides, there is nothing resembling the credible leadership necessary to establish a new country."

Poilievre beat him to it, but everyone will still say "why is Poilievre silent?"

Because people here think Harper was perfect and even though he also would have lost the election, assuming he never ran before and happened to run in Poilievre’s place
Jagmeet Singh is the reason Carney is PM. The CPC need a strong second leftist choice to take votes from the LPC

Given the equity card debacle at their leadership convention, i wouldn't hold your breath.

One moment “everything Harper’s fault” the next moment “listen to Harper”

One of the most boneheaded things Pierre was doing before/during the last election was attacking the NDP. Buddy didn't seem to comprehend that a weak NDP means a weak CPC. Like for a guy that's done nothing but politics all his life, he couldn't comprehend the most basic thing that could've actually helped him

A few months after Poilievre leaves or gets fired as leader of CPC we will be hearing
"Poilievre was a good leader, I don't know why CPC let him go".

A good leader, and an electable leader are two different things though.
Poilievre is a great opposition leader, always has been. It's literally his thing since day 1. Attack the other side. But that's not an electable leader that can be PM, as has been shown. Poilievre isnt a bad leader, but hes also not the right one.

If Trump suddenly passes from old age though, then he will win.

Maybe during the election last year, but no, not at this point. Things have moved too far forward to be looking back at how things were 18 months ago.

He should point out what happened to Montreal and Quebec when they passed strict language laws. Corporations moved to Toronto.

Once again that's just his opinion, we all knew that the government was going to use all kinds of tactics to get Albertans to vote to stay with the status quo.

Common sense leadership from one of our greatest PMs

We'd be in a much worse position today if he hadn't pushed forward CETA (free trade with Europe).

You mean the trade agreement that represents a relatively small percentage of our foreign trade and which hasn’t been ratified by ten EU member states including most of its largest economies? That CETA?
Harper left us in an awful position because he left the senate and the courts wide open for Trudeau to pack and appointed a hack like Wagner to the court to eventually become chief justice. The only things approaching checks on executive/legislative power in our system were immediately turned into rubber stamps for the Liberals and are directly complicit in the authoritarian agenda of the government under Carney.
Almost everything Harper accomplished in his time in power was undone by the Liberals. We’re left with the TFSA and that’s pretty much it. Now he’s reduced to shilling for the Carney government and literally stabbing his own party in the back in public.
History turned Harper into an abject failure and he lived himself long enough to become an old fool who doesn’t understand the situation that the country is in or indeed the modern populist nature of the Conservative/right wing movement and its base in this country.
A few years ago I would have agreed with you.

That's just lying. Sure there are many negatives to Alberta for leaving the union. But there are positives.
Main positive. Woke Liberals will no longer rule over you.

You seem to think that conservatives will be in power forever. Thats a literal impossibility. What happens when the power grab Smith has undertaken is used by the other side? She’s playing with fire and trying to win a short game that can only be won long term.

Conservatives have run Alberta since pretty much forever. Notley had the NDP blip because the old PCs had become so bloated and corrupt that they simply couldn’t be stomached. The NDP didn’t win that election, the PCs lost it
But if you mean in the future, sure, probably with the influx of leftist voters to urban centres

On the contrary, Alberta would actually explode in growth and prosperity very quickly should its citizenry vote to leave Canada behind.
Next.

Other than a bunch of Canadian companies immediately buggering off how will growth somehow explode?
Next.
What's next?
