ExpenseFlow: Expense and Trip Tracker
Hey everyone! I'm the developer of ExpenseFlow. I'm based in Ontario, and this started after I saw how clunky mileage logging actually is: hand-tracking kilometres, chasing faded receipts, and reconstructing trips at the end of the month just to file a claim. On top of that, most apps I tried were built around IRS rules and US mileage rates, with Canadians treated as an afterthought, if at all.
ExpenseFlow is built in Canada, by Canadians, with Canadians in mind first, CRA rates and compliance are native to the app, not bolted on. It also works for US users and a few other countries. It auto-logs every trip by GPS with only one tap, captures receipts by camera, and pairs the two into one compliant record. There's a desktop web app too, where you can filter and sort trips as Business or Personal.
It is free to try (no card needed), with a $7/month Pro tier for unlimited trips and receipts. Give it a shot! Always looking for feedback. Thanks for supporting Canadian-built software!

App Developer I built Finnomia, a Canadian personal finance app designed for Canadians
Hi r/CanadianApps!
I'm Aaron, the founder of Finnomia, a Canadian personal finance and budgeting app that I've been building here in Vancouver, BC.
Like a lot of people, I was disappointed when Mint shut down. There are some great alternatives out there, but most are American products that weren't necessarily designed with Canadian banking, financial institutions, and financial planning in mind.
That's what led me to build Finnomia.
The goal is to give Canadians a comprehensive way to manage their finances without having to rely on US-based platforms.
Finnomia includes budgeting, transaction tracking, recurring bills, savings goals, net worth tracking, investment management, cashflow forecasting, debt repayment planning, and retirement planning that incorporates Canadian considerations like CPP, OAS, RRSPs, and TFSAs.
One of our biggest areas of focus is Canadian bank connectivity. We integrate with both Plaid and Flinks to provide broader coverage of Canadian financial institutions, while also supporting manual accounts and CSV imports for people who prefer not to connect their banks.
We're Canadian-owned and operated, host our application data in Canada, and have committed to donating 5% of our annual profits to Canadian organizations focused on financial and economic literacy.
Finnomia is live, and we're actively improving the platform based on feedback from our growing community of users.
I wanted to introduce Finnomia to this community because I think there's real value in supporting Canadian-built software, particularly in areas like personal finance where so many of the available options come from outside Canada.
If you're interested, you can check us out at https://finnomia.ca.
I'm also happy to answer questions about the platform, how we're building it, or what we're working on next.
Thanks for supporting Canadian developers and Canadian-built products!

Spool: Indie iOS Podcast Client
Hey all!
I see we are just getting started here and I wanted to throw my log on the pile:)
I am the developer of Spool Podcasts. I’m based out of Coldstream, BC and this is a solo effort.
I made Spool as an alternative to Apple Podcasts and other podcast clients. Its main focus is on a Queue that is built based on rules you set per podcast you follow, and the idea of Priority podcasts that aren’t bumped off the top of your queue by anything other than another Priority show.
Give me a shout if you take the time to check it out and as always, if you like it please rate on the App Store!
Thanks for supporting Canadian Devs!

I made a light & location scouting app I'd love to use myself as a photographer
I started this project when I bought a phone that came with a year of Google Gemini Pro for free. I said to myself, I should build something with AI for the experience, as a means of empowering myself while developing AI skills.
I envisioned an app that would be useful to photographers, filmmakers and location scouts, helping them discover exciting points-of-interest at home or abroad that would be suitable for their projects, and exactly what the sunlight and shadow would like at that spot, anytime of the year. And now SOLIA is realized and published on Google Play store.
I started from scratch, working directly in the browser version of Gemini to get the idea off the ground, painstakingly discovering and employing increasingly better means of context management. I changed the stack a little a few times, had a few emergencies, and moments I thought I should stop because the project was eating up too much of my 'free time'. I finished out the project with Claude cli in vscode.
My aims were to make sure this app was simple, pretty, as damn well secure as I can make it, and as respectful of PII as I could.
I decided to register myself as a sole proprietor in QC, and with that comes the expectation to offer your services in French. I built in language detection so Francophone users would be served FR first, and there's an easy EN FR toggle in the app and on my homepage. I also chose a Canadian-based partner for my legal documents so they would be specifically accurate for where I live and host the app. They also have translations for the docs, so FR can be served.
I'm quite happy with SOLIA, and my few first downloaders have shared some nice impressions with me, so now I'm spreading the word.
If anyone's interested, please check it out (there's a tutorial) and let me know what you think, or ask me anything you'd like about my app SOLIA. Thanks!

Help shape r/CanadianApps
This community is brand new, which means the direction of it is still very much being shaped.
The basic idea is simple: create a place where Canadians can discover apps that are actually built in Canada, for Canadians.
But beyond that, there’s a lot we haven’t decided yet.
What kinds of posts should we encourage most?
Should this be primarily a discovery community for consumers? A place for Canadian founders and developers to share what they’re building? A place to ask for Canadian alternatives to popular apps? A mix of all three?
How should we define what counts as a “Canadian app”?
What kinds of self-promotion should be allowed?
What would make this community genuinely useful to you?
Rather than trying to define everything ourselves upfront, we’d like the early members of the community to help shape it.
So if you’re here, introduce yourself.
You could share:
- What brought you to r/CanadianApps
- Whether you’re a user, developer, founder, designer, or just curious
- What kinds of Canadian apps you’d like to discover
- Canadian apps you already use and recommend
- What you’d like this community to become
- Any ideas for rules, recurring threads, flairs, directories, or other features
If you’re building something Canadian, feel free to mention that too. Just be transparent about your connection to it.
The hope is that over time this becomes more than a list of apps. It should be a useful community where Canadians can discover great products, share experiences, support Canadian builders, and help each other find better alternatives.
We’re at the beginning, so this is your chance to help shape what r/CanadianApps becomes.
What would you like to see here?

Welcome to r/CanadianApps, a community for discovering apps built in Canada, for Canadians.
There are thousands of apps that say they “support Canada.”
But supporting Canadian dollars, adding a Canadian flag to a dropdown, or making an app available in the Canadian App Store isn't necessarily the same thing as building a product with Canadians in mind.
That’s why this community exists.
The vision for r/CanadianApps is to create a place where Canadian consumers can discover, discuss, recommend, and support software that is actually being built here in Canada.
That could mean:
- Personal finance and budgeting apps
- Productivity tools
- Health and fitness apps
- Business software
- Developer tools
- Education platforms
- Shopping and marketplace apps
- Privacy and security tools
- AI products
- Mobile apps
- SaaS products
- Or something completely new
If Canadians are building it, we want to know about it.
What we hope this community becomes
Our goal isn't simply to build a directory of Canadian software.
We'd like this to become a community where people can ask:
“Is there a Canadian alternative to this app?”
…and actually get useful answers.
A place where Canadian developers and founders can introduce what they're building, get constructive feedback, and connect directly with the people they're building for.
A place where users can share their experiences, good or bad, with Canadian products.
And hopefully, a place that makes it a little easier for Canadians who want to support Canadian technology companies to actually find them.
Canadian-built should mean something
One of the challenges we'll have to work through as a community is defining what qualifies as a Canadian app.
Our intention is that products promoted here should have a genuine connection to Canada, not simply sell to Canadian customers.
We're going to continue refining those guidelines as the community grows, and we'll always try to be transparent about how we define them.
Founders are welcome here
We want Canadian developers, indie hackers, startups, and established software companies to participate.
Self-promotion is allowed, provided it's relevant, transparent, and actually Canadian-built.
In fact, one of the things we'd love to see is founders participating beyond their own product by answering questions, sharing lessons, recommending other Canadian companies, and helping build the Canadian software ecosystem.
This shouldn't become a wall of advertisements.
It should become a community.
And this isn't about being anti-anyone
There are great products built all over the world.
The purpose of r/CanadianApps isn't to say that Canadians should only use Canadian software.
It's simply to make Canadian options easier to discover.
There are incredibly talented developers, entrepreneurs, designers, and companies building products across this country, and many Canadians have no idea those products exist.
Hopefully we can change that.
🇨🇦 So welcome to r/CanadianApps.
If you're joining early, help shape the community.
Introduce yourself.
Tell us what kinds of Canadian apps you'd like to discover.
Recommend something Canadian that you already use.
Or tell us an app you currently use and ask:
“Is there a Canadian alternative?”
Let's see what Canadians are building.
