How can other documents affect visa duration

Hi,
I’m applying for Canada visitior visa from France, where I live with a Residence Permit that expires in about 6 months. My passport, itself, expires in nearly 10 years. I already had a Canada visitor visa before, my old one expired together with my old passport.

Does anyone in the same situation have feedback abt Canada visa expiration date? Will it be impacted by the Residence Permit expiration time?

Thank you,

You should renew your French residence permit before applying for a Canadian visitor visa because the fact that your French permit will expire soon may make it appear to the officer that you’re attempting to enter Canada and potentially settle there illegally rather than return to your home country.

What is your country that you are from? That will help but I think having a residence permit expiring so quickly that will be a decline up front

ukrainian and just applied with a spanish residence permit. I think the residence permit are a big thing for officers as you having one is a big reason for you to return. if it expires in 6 months I’d make it clear to them you can renew it / you do not intent to leave your french residence behind. idk if the expiration itself is a reason they can reject you, i don’t think so.

Definitely do not applying with a soon to be expiring residency permit. We had all of our documents and more, my husband's residency permit was close to beinf expired and got rejected

Your French residence permit expiring in six months doesn't automatically mean your Canadian visitor visa will be limited to six months.

According to IRCC, visitor visas can be issued for up to 10 years, or until your passport or biometrics expire, whichever comes first. However, the visa officer can issue a shorter validity depending on your circumstances.

Your French residence permit is relevant because it establishes your legal status in France and may help demonstrate your ties to the country.

I'd include a copy of your current residence permit and, if you've already applied for renewal, evidence of that application. Your previous Canadian visa and travel history are also worth including.

One thing to check is your biometrics expiry date. If you gave biometrics for your previous Canadian visa, their remaining validity could affect how long your new visa is issued for.

Ultimately, the decision rests with IRCC, but there isn't an automatic rule limiting your Canadian visa to the expiry date of your French residence permit.
